Budget-y trucks and wheels

Are these any good? https://www.skatehut.co.uk/birdhouse-component-kit-silver-black-5-25.htm

I just bought a new deck, a bigger 8.25. My last was 7.75 and felt too small. I would swap the trucks over but they’re old and the nuts have rusted, can’t get them off.

Ive never put together a complete from parts before so I thought that kit might be a good idea, especially for the price

That or they do a mix and match for about the same price but it’s a fracture brand. Never heard of them before

Just seen that I should get a 5.5” truck for a 8.25 board. Birdhouse ones are too small

As an adult I think you would destroy those - super generic trucks and the wheels / bearings won’t be great either.

Don’t buy from Skate Hut or Route One if you can avoid it.

Where are you located? We can point you in the direction of a good skate shop to go to.

I did wonder. What’s up with skatehut?

I’m in Essex, Billericay

That Birdhouse kit should fit up to 8.25, so will be ok. Fracture is super budget though, so if it’s a choice of the two I’d go with the birdhouse stuff.

Bear in mind it’s all entry level equipment, as Ned says, you might want something better and it will serve you better in the long run, especially decent trucks.

If you’ve got a bit more budget you could get some decent trucks here:

And some cheap but slightly better wheels here:

Then use uniondiscount to find some cheap bearings and bolts: Union Discount

Look for secondhand stuff on Facebook Marketplace.

If the UK is anything like Australia there are plenty of people getting rid of decent boards they got during Covid.

Yeah I assumed so, just wishful thinking!

Thanks for the break down! I’m in not rush right now, still have the old one that rolls well enough for what I’m doing. Just thought if they were decent enough. I’ll piece something together as I go :).

As I said I’ve only ever had cheap completes that just about did the job, I’m surprised the one I have still rolls well to be honest after years and years sat in a garage. It didn’t even occur to me that truck sizes had to be matched to the board. I just bought the same size I had when I was 16, no wonder it feels small to me now! The 8.25 deck feels a lot more comfortable though. I’ll build a new one slowly and let my daughter destroy the old one

There’s definitely a few bargains on eBay. Something like this would be a good bet.

I would strongly advise going to a proper skateshop.

Not anymore, sold, @Feeble_Knievel . But Ideal sell a set of pictiure wheel company trucks and wheels for £40. They’re Thunder clones. Might have to ring the shop as don’t think they’re on sale online. I got some 8.5 ones from Brum the other day and they’re good.

I looked at those funnily enough, I thought they fell into the same group as the fractures

same geometry as Thunders, they look exactly like them and turn similarly
too. They’re good trucks

Nice, I’ll take a look

They have a whole set for £40 Picture Wheel Company Silver Undercarriage Kit 5.5" (8.25"- 8.5") – Slam City Skates

Unless it would be better to get the trucks and other bits elsewhere

Yeah that’s the one. The only thing is the bearings are a bit rubbish so get something like mini logo ones for £10 and swap out the machine bearings in the wheels for those. Slam city are good, as are Ideal but like I said you’d have to phone them up I think as couldn’t see them on their website.
