Back to the new Defender, just looking at pricing one up (strictly for fun) and…
Only one basic colour of white with any other colour being £840! That’s a bit much.

I’ve found that’s a general rule for speccing cars now; you’ll probably get a basic red, blue or silver and then everything else is a premium. I’ve specced Fords, Peugeots and Volvos recently and they all only offered one “free” colour and the rest were upgrades.
Got mine in red which was the standard colour, any other colour was an extra 500 quid.
I wouldn’t mind as much if you could get at least one other basic colour but that’s just a pisstake.
I need some car advice, i know fuck all other than how to drive one.
Im after something that would be good for a Euro road trip.
Cheap, good on fuel and maybe big enough to but the back seats down and sleep in the boot/across the back seats.
Any advice would be appreciated!
If I hadn’t literally just this morning sold my Focus you could have had that for peanuts. Not sure about sleeping in the boot though tbf. Mondeo estate or similar?
Where do you live ? Right now loads of people will be getting rid of diesel people carriers from London because of the emission zones.
Well worth a look on eBay under “mpv diesel “
Ford diesels are usually trouble free except for the odd electric faults, similar with Renault .
Japanese cars will be a bit more but come loaded with extras and are usually bullet proof engine wise.
VW engines are good, check they had the EGR valve sorted as they clog up , also the window electrics can screw up. So check that.
I wouldn’t want to road trip without air con
Diesel engine and the most popular model car you can get so any dickhead mechanic could fix it and all faults are well documented on YouTube etc
can confirm.
BMW E46 320d touring. Drove one to the Italian/French alps in comfort.
Slept in multiple times too.
Pretty cheap, reliable, & not a bad drive TBH
Only main thing to worry about is bushings in the control arms, but you’ll know if the are in need of replacement as they will make a knocking sound.
Heard a great big clunk whilst waiting at some traffic lights today. It sounded like a spring snapping and hitting the underneath of the car. I cant see any damage and the suspension still seems ok. Anyone got any ideas how expensive this will be?
Have a look at the gap in the wheel arches and see if there’s one that’s lower than the rest. It’s not always that obvious, a similar thing happened to me and it was one of the front shocks, but I couldn’t really feel a difference driving round town.
Spring might have cracked but somewhere you can’t see it. And it might look ok but hit a pothole and suddenly the car will clunk when it used not to.
Plus if you drive with one broke you’ll probably break the other one.
Got the shocks done tuesday, they broke the speed sensor in the process so had to go back in yesterday. Now there is a loud clanking noise when driving. They think it’s a wheel bearing so I’m back in again now.
Turns out it was just a back plate that wasn’t put back properly. Fuck cars forever.
Was gonna say, I’ve done a few wheel bearings and clunking is not a wheel bearing noise.
Love my Mercedes. It’s an AMG line and the Sport mode is very tasty although it manual paddle shift anyway so not needed.
Nothing like shifting down and putting your foot on the peddle in a tunnel.
