Yeah, couldn’t work out if it was an illusion but it all looks a bit wonky somehow.

Nah thats on the piss.

Brakes on Wednesday, I literally sound like a freight train when I stop.

I bet that thing is hardly that much longer than the new 130.

I think my photo is a bit weird, it doesn’t look wonky in real life

Had to take the picture with panoramic to fit it in

£464 new pads and discs. Shouldn’t have bought a car with modified brakes, lesson learnt.

What are they? Doesn’t sound too bad if they’re decent.

Doesn’t sound too bad, if you did it yourself you’d still have to pay for the parts.

They are decent - I have larger discs 310 than the standard GTi ones (280s)

And new pads as well.

It basically got a new underneath last November so it does feel very good at the moment.

Any recommendations on a dashcam setup for my parents?
Something simple and effective that technophobic pensioners can use just by pushing a button. Budget is up to about €300 or so.

No idea - Something I look up every now and again given the number of divvies on the road, then find I have something else to spend money on. I clicked on this link earlier but haven’t read it yet. Worth a lurk on Pistonheads forums too, highly likely theres a cam thread in there.

What car have they got?

If I could be bothered I can fit a front and rear dash cam in my car that link with the head unit I have (Sony). Theres a slot in the rear bumper I could put one in next to parking sensor one, and apparently can use it to park etc.

Actually typing this, I might do that haha.

Golf ticketed over 170k this week. I got it at 130k. Not sure what to do at this point. Drive it into the ground, just did rear brakes and discs, and is running nicely touch wood.

This really. As long as it is economical to repair. Decided to pull my finger out and sort my integra now.

Anything engine wise goes it’s toast basically. Waiting for the day to get dragged home by the AA.

I decided a few weeks ago I’m soon going to be in the market for a rapid wagon. Been looking at Golf Rs but I’ve been turned off by the sort of people who seem to drive them round here, and how often they seem to be nicked. Leon Cupra 300 is the favourite at the moment, but I was walking the dog the other day and a Toyota Vellfire caught my eye and now the prospect of a JDM MPV with a V6 and 4 wheel drive has got me a bit frothy. Anyone had experience with the Vellfire/Elgrand or something else of the ilk?

Golf R estate relatively unscathed by the boy racers.

Have you owned a JDM import before?

Edit - sorry if I’m telling you the obvious @Jurwell , but general JDM import stuff IME, as I have a bunch of things to do today…

Not the MPV’s but familiar with Japanese imports. If its been in the UK if it hasnt been undersealed (and done well!) check for rust. They all disintegrate fast if not rustproofed when they arrive.

Personally I’d import and from a reputable importer and then you have a fresh, and good base to work on - I used TorqueGT:

https://www.torque-gt.co.uk/toyota-vellfire-080524.html
https://www.torque-gt.co.uk/toyota-vellfire-z-platinum-310124.html

Process is - pay finders fee, if auction state max bid, if won you then buy the car, they organise the shipping and when the vehicle is landed you pay the remainder - import duty, VAT, prep/service fees, SVA fees, MOT etc etc. That pretty much doubles the auction win price and its about 5 months from buying the car to picking it up. Its a long wait watching the boat come from Japan!

If the tyres have good tread and pass the MOT and arent replaced they’ll highly likely be dogshit, so budget in a set of tyres. Radio won’t pick up much except for R2 (iirc!) and headunit will be in Japanese - you can get a band extender but replace the headunit. Remove that and if you’re lucky it is a standard headunit, if not you’ll probably find a load of butchered wiring which you need to sort out and you’ll likely find a 1/2 mile of now unused wiring from toll booth readers etc. too. Things like window rubbers might be perished - not cheap and look scruffy if they’re knackered.

Parts can be a bit scarce and a bit of a wait if they have to come from Japan. If in the EU, the Brexit benefit is that parts now take a few weeks to arrive rather than a few days

Sorry for the waffle, especially if you’ve owned imports before!!!

My mates got the Skoda VRS TDI estate and that thing is rapid . He loves it , not had any problems with it and it’s all mainly VW but cheaper . Not sure how it compares to the VW golf R , probably not as good but you’re guaranteed it won’t be on the theft list or boy racer ragged market

It’s not the boy racer brigade I’m as bothered about here. Around here the Golf R seems to have replaced the Audi A4/BMW 3 Series tailgating and general wankery drivers. I’ve just recently started wearing a snapback so I’m afraid having a twattish car will push things over the point of no return. Leon doesn’t have the same rep. Octavia VRS is a good shout and one I’ve looked at but doesn’t excite me as much, and is more expensive than the Seat for less car. There is a Superb that shares the Golf R/Cupra drivetrain that’s a seriously tempting proposition, but again a touch dearer.

The Elgrande/Vellfire/Alphard are a pipedream that will very likely not happen, but the hipster in me loves the idea of something you never see with a V6 and a captain’s chair for a driving seat.
