I like this too for what it is but it’s clear any production car won’t look much like it, yet they’re meant to actually be selling two new cars in 2026. They must be a bit further along than this surely?

Yeah but I assume when it comes it’s just gonna be a stretched i-Pace so it shouldn’t take too long to develop.

Looks alright as a concept I guess. Bit of a mix of Kia/Hyundai (stretching things a little tbh), GTR, E-Type/Crossfire. Struggling to actually care, which begs the question as to why I’m actually in this thread…

This is where I struggle with the electric car market. Why do they even need bonnets and all that, why not go completely mental and redesign cars from the ground up and do away with all the usual trappings that cars come with and aren’t needed when the guff to make things go can be housed under the occupants.

Anyhoo, that looks like something The Penguin would chase Batman in, not something that “defies expectations” like their adverts promised

There’s still quite a lot of stuff under the bonnet of even ground up designed EVs, although definitely not enough to fill the swimming pool sized space out the front of that Jaguar concept. But I guess having a bonnet makes for better passenger safety.

EVs have really evened the playing field vs combusion engines. Even shit EVs are on par with quick petrol cars.

So where does it go from here, if performance is ‘all the same’. Aesthetics/interior/brand?

How big the telly is on the dashboard?

That’s the same now for most buyers anyway isn’t it? People who actually care about performance cars mostly won’t buy EVs still anyway because they think anything not spewing out crap doesn’t have a “soul” or some bullshit?

I suppose I’m just a pissed they’ve not come up with a viable BladeRunner car or Akira bike yet

It’s not ‘unlike anything you’ve ever seen’, I realise that’s not easily done in fairness but it’s just not a crazy design. It’ll be interesting to see how they’ll justify a luxury price tag but then I suppose Land Rover managed it with a pretty poor level of reliability.

I guess everything is now about increasing battery range and affordability whilst decreasing fast charge times. Personally I could do with something like a Honda E for the school/shopping/skatepark runs, whilst keeping my current cars.

Obviously not a lot car mfrs can do about this but charging costs are the main problem for anyone without a driveway i.e. loads of people. If you have got a driveway and charge overnight then you’re paying fully 90% less than someone who has to use public chargers.

Software basically. My Tesla is leagues ahead of my Dad’s Volvo. It’s just like buying a phone, Tesla is iPhone.

Software is part of it, but they’re still cars. To be honest we might have gone for a Tesla over a Polestar if I was more keen on the looks but mainly the Musk factor.

Universal charging connectors. Currently everyone is using different plug types and everyone needs adaptors. And then there is differ charging stations which you’ll need different apps for you use

Not really, Tesla uses one type and pretty much everyone else uses another, also most charging stations you just tap your card and you’re done.

Polestar is owned by the Chinese Musk. Musk is arguably positioning himself alongside Trump as a foil to the Li Shifu/Li Xinping alliance.
