What ever you decide on, check its mot history, service history. And search for any quirks or problems the model comes with, things to look out for etc. Also when things like high cost items need replacing like dual mass flywheels or cam belts.
Volvo estate. I had a couple and would 100% get another one.
V50
Get something there are millions of. Like a golf or ford or Audi A5 (petrol) so basically anyone can work on it and all defects are well known
Honda Jazz.
Another reason why I’m wanting to get out of my industry.
These cars were minters , one only had 60k on the clock.
What a waste and all for a tv drama that might not even be that good.
Man, that’s gutting. Was it a turbo as well? I’ve got one of those on my list of cars to have a tinker with when I’m wealthy enough to have a barn full of old shitters to make good again with my dad.
No they weren’t turbos lucky. I don’t think the film company would want to pay those prices .
Still a waste .
If they were proper high mile shitters/parts cars done up with filler and a passable spray job then it wouldn’t be so bad.
These were spotless
I loved that group b era, was really into cars and rallying but skateboarding took over everything and nothing else mattered.
WRC is pretty great day the moment I’m my opinion. Aside from all the imminent death it’s not too far from Group B levels of madness.
The Yaris is a weapon.
My brother in law’s brother in law is a factory Subaru driver and rally dude over here, went on a test day where he took me on a forest stage in a Fiesta with Evo engine swap. Can happily say driving between trees at 120kmh on a gravel track through a forest is fucking amazing.
Happy to watch that from the side thanks. I’d probably poop my pants in that car
You know when you’re parking in the car park and you can’t quite see the corner of the car and you swing it past a bollard by a whisker and you feel really smug about it? It’s like doing that but whilst flooring it, and instead of small bollards it’s trees
If it’s the 92-X that’s a Subaru Impreza wagon with a Saab front end on it! Aka Saabaru. there was one for sale in UK last year for about 2k, was seriously considering dragging it over to Estonia
Always had a soft spot for Saab as they were the first brand I can remember noticing (used to live in Sweden as a very young kid), I’ve always been tempted by a 9-5 coupe or convertible but they seem a bit risky to take on now. The most recent ones looked great as well in my opinion:
the mid 00s convertibles looked fucking sick as well
Yeah, it’s still plenty nuts and modern rally cars are way quicker than Group B ever were. From most of those Group B clips the speed of the cars was far outweighed by the demented spectators and lack of any crowd control whatsoever when it came to safety.
I remember some Group B doc where one of the Audi drivers said they found a spectator’s finger wedged down the side of one of wing mirrors!
Ah, the heady days of Juha Kankkunen and Carlos Sainz
