Love group b, just because it was mental. Big power, turbos 4wd etc.
We have M-Sport up here in Cockermouth. I done a weeks trial there before I left the army as a rally technician. It wasn’t as interesting as it sounds, it was building wiring looms from engineering drawings. I imagined I’d be crawling all over cars and stuff much like I was doing in my day job fixing CVRT. All the looms get built then tested on a test bed before going down to the shop floor and the mechanics fit them. And if they have a fault it comes back up put on the test bed and repaired. Don’t get me wrong it was an interesting spot to look around just not the job I had in mind.
Out the back they had a garage full of brand new parts full to the brim, because they would get brand new from Ford, focuses, fiestas etc and just strip them to a bare shell and everything that was taken off was just chucked in this garage. Apparently Malcolm Wilson isn’t the nicest of guys from what I could gather from people working there.
On a side note the turbo on my mini is off a Saab 9-3 or 9-5 the 2ltr petrol one. A lot of the newer Saabs are based on Vauxhalls.
Funny, I’m literally looking at it right now. Planning to try the subscription service, it’s pricey but you get 30 days free, and I don’t really feel like committing to a 4 year PCP deal at the moment… Thinking of it as a lengthy test drive until I’m more confident to sign something longer.
They have a subscription thing where you just pay monthly without a deposit or long term deal. So you obviously pay way more, but you get a brand new one and can change cars whenever, basically everything is included except fuel. You do end up paying wayyy over the odds though.
It’s a cool idea, think I’ll try it for a month or two and if I like the car then I’ll buy one properly. Mostly I just want to know what’s gonna happen with lockdown etc before I make any commitments.
Sold a flat and so the wife has suggested we upgrade the car to a ‘safe, family car’. Which I guess means a 4x4 (with blacked out windows and spinning rims), but where the fuck does a clueless mug begin to look for one? Probably the cars most often marketed to idiots/arseholes, and the used market seems like a total minefield.
If you want big, reliable and cheap, I can recommend one of these. Hyundai Santa Fe 2010. Not remotely pimp-like clearly but it depends if that money is burning a hole or you just want to get from A to B and carry lots of shit around.
No, I spent 24 hours awake and straight from a party in Alps to Glasgow in a Caravelle with no booze and I never want to see the inside of one again. There’s one on my street too, and I hate even seeing the outside of it.
Would look at the RAV4 if I were you. The latest gen one looks gully in black. 2.5 hybrid so it’s economical and pretty powerful. And it’ll never break ever and has a really long warranty.
That’s so nice looking there but I hated that so much when it came out because it was a car company trying to use the word ‘Rave’ in their marketing and I never got over that.
