In my 40’s and still don’t drive, pretty sure I never will. I really don’t feel responsible enough, still.
I did used to love cars though, was really into rallying so i’d love something like the Lancia Delta but finding one that isn’t a rust bucket would be impossible.
I think I love 80’s cars the best. I’d have one of these if I was being flash.
It’s more a case that i’m not bothered about it, I just can’t see myself behind the wheel, ever. You know when you want something and you can see yourself having it or being somewhere and then it happens and it’s rad but expected, this isn’t it, it’s a total alien concept. I could imagine what having kids was like way easier.
Yeah for sure. The Renault 5 gt turbo and Nissan pulsars were fast but not everyone could have one .
Today they get pissed on by the engine specs of the new hot hatches and everyone has got them.
You pretty much had to work your way up a few cars to afford a rapid car because of the cost, but now it could be your first but probably your second car.
Yeah that actually scares me because you can hear a fast petrol car but not really an electric one .
Don’t get me wrong, if the missus didn’t drive it would be shite. We have a qashqai.
Yeah I heard that and some manufacturers can play engine noises .
But you’ll never get the engine and exhaust vibration in the airwaves like a car.
So odd. That pinin guy designed the Peugeot 406 I think it was and that looks like they chopped the 406 estate up and glued it on the back of a rari
People used to kit car the 406 coupe to look like a rari because of the similarities in body shape
The 2.3 U.K. mustangs have microphones rigged up and play the engine noise through the speakers to make it sound better.
Currently doing some work with an electric model, which is mostly based around the Taycan turbo S (we don’t get the turbo naming either) they’re not that silent with their drive units, weight and air behaviour, you can hear something is coming, but I can see some added noise being brought in for smaller passenger vehicles, otherwise ambulance chasers will be setting up receptions in every supermarket car park.
That’s why I love old imprezas, that classic flat 4 burble
I think there’s a requirement for it but only at low speeds. Anything over 20mph most of the noise you hear from an average modern petrol car is the sound of it pushing through the air and the tyres on the road.
my list for the hell of it
vw scirroco
xr2
rover 214 sei (worst)
corolla gti
audi 80 coupe
audi a4 sline
bmw 330ci (regretted selling)
bmw x5
bmw 335d touring (best)
I’ll just talk over you Lynn…go on try it…I’m not driving a mini metro
I think this is all the cars I’ve owned:
Renault 5 (written off down a lane two weeks after passing my test)
Another Renault 5
BMW 325 E30 (one of my favourites)
Renault 20TS (destroyed when I understeered into a foot high kerb in the snow)
Nissan Primera (I don’t know why I bought this)
Datsun 160J SSS Coupe (found this hardly used, loved it, RWD and looked like a mini muscle car)
Smart Roadster (amazing little flyweight slightly let down by the annoying electro-mechnical gearbox)
Mazda 6
MX5 (can’t wait to have another one of these some day)
BMW 320
Civic Type R
NIssan Leaf
My dad has one of the Lexus Hybrids (the RX I think?), and it’s totally silent at low speeds as I assume it’s running on the electric motor, it’s weird!
What was the corolla gti like ? Was never a fan of the shape but intrested to know the power and handling
What happened to the Datsun? I’m guessing it disintegrated in the rain eventually
good, steering was on the light side but fun to drive…however a bit of rust bucket in the end on the wheel arches and round the sunroof
Yeah standard 90’s jap cars. Not made for the wet and salty Uk roads.
Did you have the 1.6/ 1.8 twin cam Like the old MR2/corollas ? Such a good revvy block .
My crx literally has no rear arches or inner arches or sills , most would scrap it but luckily I have all the parts to restore it.
yep twin cam 1.6 i think…
this has reminded i sold the xr2 to a bloke in Staines and it still had a load of old jazz mags in the spare wheel well…gutted…different times!
My mum had a massive Datsun.
It was a heap.
We called it the yellow monster.
