Foolishly let our dog sleep in the bed for the week when we came back from holiday three months ago… That week lasted till Saturday night and trying to get him to sleep back in his crate is a nightmare. Sleep has become a myth, good job I love the little sod!

Biggest regret letting our 2 in the bed. Never left with any room and wake up with constant back ache where he’s slept against my back,

Reading a good book cosied up in bed with my two cats close to me is my favourite thing in the universe at the moment. I sound like a spinster and I’m totally cool with that.

It’s the best. Except for the cats can sometimes go into such a deep sleep when they’re close to me that they appear to be dead. Have genuinely had little panics because it’s taken so long to rouse them.

Love the little guy he’s truly my first born child. But let’s just say how needy he is, is affecting other parts of my life…

My younger cat brought a live mouse as some kind of present last night, it took me 24 hours to catch it and rescue it (after hearing it all night last night), it bit me twice, I put it back in the garden then my cat brought it back 3 minutes later, dead like Fred with a bullet in his head. Merci Pompon. :man_shrugging:t4: :man_shrugging:t4: :man_shrugging:t4:

Pro tip for catching live mice cats bring in, they’ll always go for a dark corner so put down a welly, chase them towards it and they’ll usually run straight in.

Incase anyone was still on the fence about dogs in the bed,

Woke this morning and discovered one of my dogs had been sick under the duvet.

Silver lining is it was on my wife’s side.

Had that before too. Middle of the night having to have a shower as my leg had gone right in it then slept in the spare bed.

Looks like my household is getting a dog.

Have almost convinced the wife that we should call it Wilkins.

Had our puppy spayed a couple of weeks back.

Spay went fine but in a nutshell we noticed a sore on her back and she went batshit at the vet on first check up post spay. Fast forward a few days and the owner of the Vets thinks that our puppy ended up directly on the heat mat rather than the blanket. And the Vet nurse didn’t notice. This basically burnt her back whilst she was under.

We found out on our way into Derby on Sat which explains my daughter being less than happy at Voltaron and wanting to go home at first. Glad we didn’t leave, just needed the break and it was a great day.

The burn is severe enough that the skin is dying and she needs surgery to cut away the remaining dead skin and pull and sew together her back. Probably a couple of weeks. She’ll go and stay with my dad over half term, she needs a break in some calm environment rather than a hyper autistic boy and his shouting parents.

Heartbreaking.

It goes without saying that is a really unfortunate, shitty situation that shouldn’t have happened. From one spaniel to another, Get Well Soon.

It shouldn’t have. Vets will be sorting it at their cost and it’s a case of crossing everything and hoping there are minimal patches.

Once that is done it’ll be a case of thrashing out the details - I want everything refunded and also some form of cover from them if there are any complications related to the procedure in the future. That sort of thing.

Yeah. It’s pretty bad that they let this happen.

Sad thing is we’ve been with them for 16 years and know they’re not bad. It’s just a stupid mistake by one of their staff. Doesn’t stop me internally seething, but need to be mature about these things.

Generalizing here, but do new dog owners consider their canine a preemption to having a child?

I just wonder if there’s some logic there of if you can handle the responsibility of having a dog from puppy age, then you think you should manage having a kid.

Not trying to offend any dog owners or parents. I’m a cat person and there’s no similarities or parallels between cats and children, at least nothing obvious.

It wasn’t for us. We had a cat from 2006, my first child was born in 2013 and we found an injured cat a few weeks later who we took in. Son born 2015. Wife and kids have been wanting a dog for years and I always said no as we were out all of the time.

Im full time at home since covid we thought my son would benefit having a dog and im around to make sure she is ok.

We got a dog a year before our first kid was born, mainly so the kids would grow up around animals and not be scared of them. They haven’t really bonded, they sort of ignore each other. It’s like having three kids to look after instead of two and the dog gets way less attention than she probably needs cos the two young kids have to be the priority. In hindsight I’d have waited till the kids were old enough to pull their weight with dog duties before getting one. I love the dog but it was the wrong time to get one.
