Chad Caruso – Skating across America

All caught up on this. He’s doing well, up to date 21 now.

And everyone is shouting at him to get a hi vis. Even offered one by a passing Texas highways dude.

Im struggling to comprihend how hes been going for 21 days and only had a little rain. I know hes been going across the west coast, but still, i can’t get my head around it.

If I was skating across America I’d finally learn to push switch properly

Do you mongo switch push then? Or just switch push badly?

I think like Chad I assume I can switch push really well hut if it came down to being on a road with busy traffic is probably realise it sucks

Chad Caruso is a fucking legend.

Instead of rambling about not wanting to wear a hi vis he shoulda said “I’m keeping it real” tbh

Looong road.

its starting to bother me a bit that a skater is pushing 3000 miles across America to raise awareness and money for addiction charities and as far as I can see he’s only getting coverage from traditional media (tv stations etc.). it’d be nice if thrasher or literally any skate media did something…

He mentioned those sponsorship issues and the food truck chain he works for made a new taco called El Chad, giving 1 dollar for each El Chad taco sold for a while.
Thrasher are too cool and worried about their street cred to support a YouTuber which is a bit sad considering the guy is doing this for addiction awareness and Phelps died of an OD not that long ago.
Too bad adidas could afford the music rights for Jump Around but couldn’t send him 2 pairs of shoes.

yeah i’m not fussed about the sponsorship but how much does it cost Thrasher, Nine Club, Street League etc. to make an IG post about him?

he’s not Braille or Revive. He’s a geezer who does trick tips occasionally who is skating 3000 miles. like you say, addiction is a massive problem in skateboarding. it’s probably more of hard hitting issue in the industry itself than outside of it.

i doubt the big companies are unaware of Chad’s latest challenge so they’re actively choosing not to promote which is bullshit

having said that i’ve noticed don brown and jim thiebaud like his posts and its not like either of their companies have posted anything either…

Maybe they’re waiting for him to finish before doing something about it, than jumping the gun?

Half way point, a new pair of shoes and some nice support from the public. Rad episode.

Stoked for him.

Joking aside with the Braille thing…

Its fucked up but it dawned on me earlier that there may be a bit of reputational risk calculation going on in the background here. He’s skating across the US, on his own with no backup/support. Wearing all black, wont wear a hi vis etc etc.

On some of the videos there seems to be some close passes and I’d hazard a guess that no company want to be attached to this if something bad happens to Chad (which I and I’m sure we all really hope does not happen). Proper corporate Michael Fabricant way of thinking isnt it?

Either way, to me this guy is a legend and from now on in I hope he gets that Forrest Gump type of support post half way

No skateboard media really wants to touch issues with addiction/sobriety unless it’s a known personality and they’re on the other side of it.

Nail on the head for a lot of companies.

I gotta send him some money at some point. Dude’s pretty unique.

Pointless comment for the Chad thread…

Feel a bit bad for watching the latest upload while drinking a booze.

(Moretti if you’re asking).
