Ed is great but I feel sorry for how many times he’s had to say GPU’s over the last month.
He’s the only one as far as I’ve noticed who’s pointing all this out. There must be others I suppose.

Mo Bitar is another, he is mentioned early on in the piece @visuals0und linked above (which is an enjoyable read over tea). Mo makes me laugh. Anyhow, we’ve been told to go in hard with AI and have obviously been given a decent enough budget per person at $500. I tend to have really great hyperfocus when I need to so thought I’d jump in given a) I was told x was needed by end May and b) y (AI) is the way to get it done. Hey, why not.
I’m in a weird position where I’m rapidly moving from a Senior DBA role to god-knows-fucking-what-next. All strangely chaotic for what feels like no reason. I’m tired and it’s a lot of baloney.

I’ve burnt through $650 of Claude tokens in under a month. Drinking water by the barrel, sorry.
It has removed all sense of achievement from my job. The fun went years ago…doesn’t feel like there is much left. I’ll stop moaning.

Just noticed work have now set default model to Haiku. The volume of Claude budget extension requests (we get $500 each) after 10 days were pretty surprising

Not long before you’re all running local inference, surely
Company have not long released our own internal AI (based on Claude), so maybe we’ll be directed in that direction as that beds in. Local inference - who knows.

I have long had the idea of creating some kind of old tv hooked up to a raspberry pi or similar that plays skate videos on a loop. Thinking classic 4:3, CRT television…
Anyhow, that idea always makes me think of how it would work with modern HD, widescreen stuff… Which leads to today’s idea… combining some off the shelve shell scripts to download Youtube videos and automatically crop them to 4:3 and make them look like they’re running through your crusty skate house VHS player…
