Bluntslide on curbs? That’s a fun one to try at Spit.
You need backtails in your life! They feel really good.
Pop, then, once you are above the ledge, turn and land with all your weight on your back foot toes, no heel drag. Your whole body has to be on top of the ledge. You want to turn more than you think you have to otherwise your wheel that’s on your heel side will stop you. Your upper body has to do what it does when you’re doing a backside 5050. Your hips and legs do the backtail bit. From there start sliding and, er, roll away clean.
Start practicing locking in on an unwaxed curb, it’ll help go more comfortable with that trick which can be scary at first.
This might help too (13:33):
You can see the late carve thing and the overturn needed for the slide well in this clip too:
Franc with the solid advice.
I was going to post and say ‘so a backside 180 but with a ledge in the way’, which is the way I taught myself to do them.
Your input might be more helpful
I can only do little ones on curbs but you have to force yourself to turn a full 90. Any less you will get bucked off straight away.
Bluntslides are all about leaving your shoulders parallel to the board while everything below the belt turns 90.
Concentrate on those shoulders and you’ll smash it
Thanks for all the advice.
Back tails it is then.
Will also see if I can actually get bluntslides to slide. I tend to pop in and pop straight out.
I’m off to find myself an nice unwaxed curb.
Yes! Keep us posted man.
Yes!
Backside or frontside?
Backside mate.
Ok. Loads of pressure on your heel. Try to keep your board as vertical as possible for the slide so you’re well locked in.
I think Scottish Ben is going down with you guys. Saw him last week at our local indoor. I’d rolled my ankle so was lurking. I might not make it, depends on my ankle healing well enough.
Back tail is a good one, get it!
Yeah he’s coming with us. Hope your ankle heals well and you can make it.
Ahh thanks, it has been a rough start to 2025, enough to question why the hell I’m still trying to skate into my late 40s
Have been watching that reel on repeat.
All I need to do now is channel my inner JB.
Yeah man I watched it loads too!
Couple of photos from the Huddersfield DIY AKA ‘The Derrics’ - due to be demolished soon sadly.

Autumn/winter edit.
Mountains or at least trees in every backdrop, snow too sometimes.
Excellent - I tried a few front 50 bs 180 out yesterday but everytime I prepare to bs 180 I flop off from my heel to my toe if that makes sense. My mate said make sure I pop and earlier than I think I should.
Seems to make sense…what do you reckon? The same? I can hear you pop and it looks almost like a cancelled front 180 (which doesn’t make sense!) in my odd brain.
Gonna try some more tomorrow night. Currently feel like I’ve been hit by a train.
Radness Franc!
I’d love to learn those no comply flips.
Some lovely stunts in that lot
Thanks man!
Learn them at the end of a ledge first, that’s much easier.
You want to have your weight on top of the ledge but still on your heels. Scoop the 180. And like for any 180 out of a grind, slide or manual, rotate your shoulders first and then your hips will follow.
For the mid-ledge version you have to do your 180 more vertically, more rocket style, so your front wheels don’t hit the ledge on the way out. This, and try to jump as far away from the ledge as you can, aim for 3 kilometers and you’ll still land pretty close to the goddamn ledge.
Thanks!
Try to put pressure on your back foot like you would for a pressure flip so your board hits the obstacle at an angle and then naturally flips the other way. Does that make sense?
Thanks pal!
