Without getting too Mark Corrigan, this is a great book about WW2 POW camps on the Mandalay Peninsula, from someone who was there:
Wow. Fucking hell.
Certainly an eye opener when that thing comes steaming around the corner!
Yep thats the big fella. That whole thing with the tank was rediculous, I took that photo when it was being dropped off a few years back. I took my lad to have a quick look.
Itâs always great to see a British guy involvedâŠ
I managed 28 seconds.
How big is La Haine in the UK? Is it considered a classic or anything like that?
Did you know that Jodie Foster speaks French fluently? Sheâs amazing.
Yes itâs well known by a certain generation and film fans in general. Considered a classic by those people. Younger people probably less so but what do they know anyway
Yeah itâs pretty much up there and highly revered.
Although I got a nice mug of it at work and nobody there knows what it is.
Jodie foster dubs her English language films into French.
Arnold Schwarzenegger does not dub his into Austrian as he sounds like a farmer.
Well regarded in my small circle of 90âs friends ![]()
Ive not seen it in a long time.
Yeah, I remember that, Man Bites Dog (Câest arrivĂ© prĂ©s de chai vou) and Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer used to always get mentioned in the same conversation as Le Haine ⊠around here anyway.
La Haine is definitely a cult movie here (here as in in Euro French-speaking countries). People of our generation here say quotes from it all the time. Itâs that big.
Câest arrivĂ© prĂšs de chez vous is incredible. I hear quotes from it very often too.
It doesnât get quoted here cos itâs hard to quote a subtitle and lots of us struggle with English let alone French
Yeah yeah of course it was just a way to show how big those movies are here and how they impacted the local culture I suppose.
I went to see Adian Dub Foundation do a live score to it in Bradford earlier in the year - was sold out & quite surprised at the range of people attending so on that, I assume irâs got quite a reach in the UK (or Yorkshire, at least)
Was really good to see it on a big screen & not a VHS copy as I did originally
