There is a group of unvaccinated clinical NHS staff who are making a legal challenge to the mandate as they do not believe that they are more of a threat to patients than those who have been vaccinated. You can see interviews with doctors explaining their reasoning (Together declaration).
It just increasingly makes sense. The fact that it was implemented is a vindication for democracy and in theory should give people more faith in the democratic process in this country (although it is hard not to see the irony given how authoritarian, undemocratic and incompetent the Johnson administration has been in many ways). Historically Brexit was a left-wing cause espoused by figures such as Tony Benn. It’s not simply an issue pushed by reactionaries on the right as was implied by a lot of mainstream media in 2016.
The principle of smaller government and decisions made more locally should lead to a freer society. I have started to question why we have so much attachment to a beaurocratic supra-national body that impoverishes many of its poorer members.
Replying to your anti-vaxx stance:
Believing something and it actually being true are two different things. I noticed you by-passed another one of BDF’s post again.
Replying to your pro-brexit stance:
Ironically the European Supreme Court is better for a freer society. As The Tories try to strip away our basic human rights here, like changing our right to protest and are basically trying to stop us having one at all. Easy question, at a local level what can we do now, that we couldn’t do before?
I would have more confidence in the Pfizer vaccine if the raw data was available. The FDA still hasn’t released the trial data on which they gave an emergency use authorisation. It’s still hasn’t been fully licensed.
On covid: have you heard their arguments or are you implying that because they are beliefs they lack scientific credibility?
On brexit: It’s basically about autonomy. I might be opposed to a lot about the current government but I support the idea of implementing our own laws and customs as opposed to outsourcing this to a centralised bureaucracy and paying to be a member.
So you back the breaking up of the U.K? So Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland and England can govern as their own countries alone too?
…and always back to this…
Why aren’t the medical and scientific community backing their stance as a whole if it’s so credible?
All just the standard stupid bollocks that’s been gone over a million times that only truly makes sense to someone with a vague mistrust of foreigners.
Absolutely,
Just can’t believe the extent of the sheer ignorance of how bad Brexit is really going. Just makes you lose faith in humanity.
Thanks for contributing some substance Jon. Better than just posting links regardless of the response.
Back on the “echo chamber” debate slightly, I actually don’t mind if this place is a bit of an echo chamber. I get enough disagreement with my political views off my family or work colleagues to want it here as well. Good debate is enriching but increasingly rare in today’s society where it seems that “ok I was misinformed, I will alter my view with your points in mind” or “I do not fully agree, but can consolidate my experiences with your own to build a fuller picture of the world at large” are somehow signs of weakness or a level of advanced critical thinking that we all seem to either be incapable of or we can’t be bothered because life nowadays is too full of other stressful bollocks we simply can’t give up the brain power to allow it.
You’re right, we come here to sweat the small stuff, skateboarding. Fucking having to delve into politics, sudo science and religion. There are plenty of other places for that.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind things getting political or philosophical, even controversial. It’s interesting, but endless circular debate and disagreement is tiring as fuck. Give me my comfort blanket, as free of dissent as possible. At least, if there is an opinion different to mine, let it be about whether Ryan Sheckler is legit or whether there’s such a thing as an overcrook or if it’s just a tweaked nosegrind.
Being that I currently still have Covid, I’ve been getting a slew of insta DMs from people who all seem to have the answer.
Because, y’know…smoking weed in your bedroom at your parents house is the perfect scientific background required to defeat a disease which is currently bettering the greatest minds of our time…but anyway; I’m sort of intruiged by a couple of links but also really can’t be arsed to click play to find out I’ve wasted 30 minutes of my valuable self-isolation time on some cloak and dagger anti-vaxxer when I could be doing literally nothing instead. Because doing literally nothing instead sounds better to me that that other option.
Short version: Dr. John Campbell. Worth a punt or is he a kook?
Is he even a Doctor? Seems like he was a nurse? Nothing wrong with being a nurse, ect, ect but it’s not a doctor.
In November 2021, Campbell made false claims about the use of the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment.
He has a PhD in nursing education, which seems a bit sneaky to refer to yourself as Dr when doing medical advice videos.
I know technically he is but I think people will assume he studied medicine.
The old PhD…
So he is pushed as a “good” resource but messed up once or twice. And got misquoted by anti vax crew to promote their cause.
That last one is unfortunate. I wonder if he reneged on the comments where he messed up?
It seems like he makes a lot of content and with that, it’s got to be hard to be at the forefront and right 100% of the time. So on the occasions he isn’t, if he deals with it properly then that is respectable.
I dunno.
Maybe I should just avoid all news entirely. Forever.
My rule is, anyone trying to make a name for themselves out of covid should be avoided.
So he isn’t actually a doctor, hasn’t formally studied medicine, and spends the majority of his time making YouTube videos pretending he’s a doctor and giving medical advice?
Love it.
