Midi sends clock or notes or both. And sometimes other data too. I just learned trial and error. The mpc is designed as a sampler and midi controller. Ill explain a bit more later
Some interfaces are just hideous, especially late 80s early 90s, menu diving for stuff that should be on the panel but that time was very preset driven. The geeks making the stuff were packing so much synthesis under the hoods but the users were not interested in getting at it.
Midi is a godsend and still a decent way of getting around things even with it’s glitches and flaws.
Something as simple as using a good sequencer to play a synth line that you just wouldn’t come up with when playing the keys yourself is a great thing. Daisy chaining gear all with their own channels and parameter CC values messed with can get complicated but it’s fun when it works. Jamming with gear that starts, stops, tweaks all in sync is wonderful.
I have some random drum machines still that I haven’t gotten around to using, fixing, bending etc. Sold many of the random machines to pay for divorce but I only got rid of stuff I knew I wouldn’t use or get around to using.
It varies a bit from machine to machine but you just plug a midi cable out of the master unit into the slave unit (pervy eh) and set to the same midi channel and that’s about it. The master sends note, sequence, clock to the other.
I quite like using the td-3 to play a synth with them both playing audio
Yeah. Each machine will have it’s own midi menu, work out what conversation you want them to have, match the numbers and they talk.
An mpc can control and sequence up to 6 or more potentially bits of kit at the same time, which takes a while to setup but can be really cool when it all works. Don level is Orbital controlling whole banks of stuff through a midi sequencer live on stage
Some of this will be using its own sequencer just synced. I guess he can switch between different sequences with the controller
Said it many times, just couldn’t get on with the MPC but yeah, it’s a powerful sequencer.
I use Elektron boxes to sequence/control mainly.
Which one did you have again? Tne One is overcomplicated in some ways but the 2000 i can use in the dark, have done in fact when im sitting at it for hours and barely notice the daylight fading.
But it’s just what works for you in the end. I never got my head around the microkorg, making patches on that was beyond me
I had the 1000 in black. Newer one.
Damn, just looking through my ebay pics of what i’ve sold on, i’ve had some stuff haha.
The microkorg was ok to programme once you got used to the abbreviations but the matrix is right there so not too bad. Loses polyphony quick though once you start getting involved. Dive in, it’s a nice sounding synth. Same engine and sound as the MS2000. I bought the Radias based on how much I liked the Micro and it wasn’t the same sound at all. Totally different but it had it’s own vibe but again ended up letting that go.
Pretty skint atm and vaguely considering selling my Monomachine, is eBay having a laugh or do they actually go for £2500?
I’d rather keep it of course regardless of how little use it gets…
Check on reverb.com for a more accurate price, though that tends to be on the high side. Don’t actually know what the monomachine is…
depends, some people really lust after them as even the Digitone doesn’t do what the monomachine does, just different beasts, same as digitakt vs Machinedrum. So sometimes they seem like they’re going for crazy prices and other times not. I think they’d certainly go for £1200 for mk1 and £1500 for Mk2+
I have thought about selling mine too as I haven’t used it in a good while but I dunno, can’t seem to do it.
Watch the Mk1 with 14 hours left for a realistic gauge.
Which one do you have again?
Got this badboy in the boxing day sales
Having a blast with it. It has some sick Rhodes/Wurly patches and the synth presets are rocking. Sound design in the menu sucks but that’s not what it’s for.
Been jamming along with the Syntakt but I think I’m gonna swap the Syntakt for a Digitakt soon. I’ve got my head around the workflow now but I want real samples and the Syntakt is a bit techno for my taste. I wanna make Dilla Jazz.
That’s massive, what is it? If you’re a proper keys player that looks good. Has it got weighed keys?
Love a bit of Rhodes, chuck us some chord samples and bits to chop up, gwan
Roland Juno DS88. Yeah proper workstation. They use the same keybed in the stage pianos, weighted keys etc. I’m in love with it. I’ll record something soon!
That’ll be ace to whack effects on. Bet it’s nice to play. I’m missing a decent weighted keybed.
But I do have these, ha!
Nice! Some samples would be dope. Forum collab. Anyone play bass?
Got a well used one of these cheap recently. Based on the 106 i think
Digital mini module thing
Mate has a weighed yamaha electric piano, some lovely stuff on it
The keys on this are done on it
Yep, I play.
That’d be pretty cool actually, forum collab.
