What’s the word from the wise on Bones bushings? Think I need a new set, currently have Ace trucks, Ace lower bushings and Bones upper medium and cranked tight enough to make most men cry. Mixing them up seemed fine about 2 years ago, think they’ve all given up the ghost at this stage.
used to use the bones mediums but they didn’t last me long. gone back to the indepedent ones instead, last forever and the board turns just as well
Had a couple of sets of Bones bushings. The turn was super good, but gone through a set a year, which seems a bit excessive. Trying out the Thunder Trucks Rebuild Kit. No complaints so far. Can’t rock the red colour anodised wheel nuts though.
I’m a no socks with shorts.
(Although in my submission for the kerbs thread i’m wearing long ones cos it was easier than putting trousers on).
Total opposite for me, I’ve always ridden Indys but only started using Bones mediums in them a couple of years ago, with no washers, and the difference was amazing, much more turning. No going back
I generally skate quite loose anyway. The bones ones died so fast for me, the inner bit would separate from the outer bit
Same here. I got Bones Medium the first time and they lasted a year, so I tried the soft ones and they perished in the same way (bushings split and then separated from the plastic). Great while they lasted.
Damn, I suppose I’ve got crumbling bushings to look forward to then. Everything crumbles
Here here.
re bones: skated the softs for about a month and the bottom rear bushing fell apart. i believe this is down to bones hardcores not correctly fitting the geometry of thunders which causes more stress and eventual breakage. for thunders you cant go wrong with the rebuild kits but that being said its always nice to experiment. right now i have some super hard shit bushings from no name trucks as my bottoms, and the soft bones hardcores on top. skates super loose but on account of the hard bushing it tends to stop before wheelbite.
re shorts: skated in em for the first time this year, no shinners but i realised how fucking veiny my legs get when skating
Do people still ‘double Wilson’ it nowerdays?
Think yourself lucky - I’ve got varicose veins in my calves. Another reason why I’m scared to get my legs out.
Bones wheels and Bones bearings have always been amazing for me. I’ve had the same set of Bones Swiss Six Ball for over 15 years and they’re still like new. And Bones Hardcore wheels on my cruiser board that have had people tripping on how fast it is. Just the bushings that haven’t lived up to their usual, high, standards for me.
Me too! I’ve had my 6 balls for 10 years, but do given them a proper clean every time I get a new set of wheels.
A mate got me a set of Bones Swiss or whatever they’re called (the fancy ones) and while they do the job, my whole setup makes a weird noise because of them and I actually prefer good ole SKFs and the cheap ones Antiz used to make.
i had a set of bones red for 14 years 9 of them were spent on my old board in a garage never being used, when i pulled that old board out to get into skating again they still span as well as they always did! shame the deck didn’t last as well!
The swiss 6 balls are way better than the normal swiss, in my experience. I’ve had a couple of sets of the latter that I wasn’t very impressed with.
The regular bones reds never lasted me more than 6 months. Changed to the bones super reds, they’re about £30 and have been amazing for 5 years, broke 2 in the last 2 weeks so it’s about time they were replaced I guess. Wouldn’t hesitate to get again.
I’m with you on that. I was lucky enough to ride a couple of sets of regular Bones Swiss and the cages cracked and fell apart after a year or two (I was probably jumping down more stuff then) same happened with Bones Red, but since riding the Six Ball, I try and tell as many people as possible about how good they are. That extra material in the cage seems to make all the difference.
I see they make Red Six Ball now. Wonder what they’re like.
Bones Reds fall apart for me. Destroyed 2 sets in as many months.
Totally blew out a set of bones softs but they lasted about 5 years so I’m happy with that, especially if they make fresh trucks skateable.
Bones STF/SPF are my go to wheel. Stay white for ages and have never managed to flat spot them.
