Some did do over 3 decades ago - San Diego trucks certainly did and Grind King sold inverted king pins too. Cell Block risers had a clip for your Allen key :smile:

Surprised that it’s taken Thunder this long, given that their baseplates fit a kingpin nut perfectly for DIY inverted kingpins.

Yes it was the grind king ones. They were also hollow and brittle compared to cell blocks.

I wonder if it’s because trucks are increasingly made in the same factories in China and the owners are offering options like reverse kingpin models to all their customers.

I used buy into all of the gimmicks. I haven’t had a set of hollow trucks for 6/7 years. Looking to replace my current trucks. As I’m starting to put on a bit of timber looking cut weight elsewhere but do people actually notice a difference?

Skated the thunder hollow lights for ages and really like them. They’re noticeably lighter. Does that make difference to skating? It probably flips or spins differently but I don’t notice anything. Therefore is it just a gimmick? Probably

I’ve never snapped a thunder truck regardless of hollowness or not

I am waiting for the thunder inverted kingpin trucks to hit the UK though

What trucks do you skate?

I have multiple setups with Indy Hollows and Standards. I like both, can’t really notice a difference but then again I don’t flip my board very often these days.

Currently skating Krux 8.25’s (don’t laugh, I’ve always got on with them, and have seen more Krux in the last month than I’ve seen in my life).

Have skated a few hollow thunders and ventures years ago, but not had Indy’s for 15+ years.

What I’m thinking is I’m overthinking it, it’s a nice to have but not the be all and end all.

I don’t know that much about truck companies to be honest, been skating Indys and nothing else for over 20 years now I think. If it ain’t broke…

Indy 139 ti’s here. I only notice how light my set up is when I pick other peoples up. I don’t have the leg strength to be kicking a couple of kg’s around :rofl:

I think they make no difference whatsoever to the way the trucks ride. Once they’re bolted onto a deck you won’t be able to feel any difference in weight or notice any difference in the ride.
Saying that, I ride hollow inverted kingpin Slappies, just because I like to feel I’ve got the latest stuff and because I like look of the gold anodised baseplates.
If anything the inverted kingpins are less good than standard ones because mine worked loose after a couple of weeks and needed tightening up half a turn. Maybe it was just the bushings breaking in. But I never had that with standard kingpins.

In my opinion, the length of the wheelbase makes more difference than the kind of trucks I skate when I’m popping flip tricks or doing a manual. No difference when it comes to grinds, obviously, you’re sitting on your trucks when you’re doing that.
