What about their base plate with a different hanger. Then you keep the adjustable wheel base with the weird hanger
The thought of Koston getting a cut of money if I bought those is enough to put me off
All this adjustable wheelbase stuff sounds like bollocks to me. Truck holes are drilled with specific measurements to make the board as a whole work: X board has Y fingers of flat before the kicks, its nose and tail are steep or mellow, long or short, and you might well fuck it all up and make it unskatable playing with those adjustable wheelbase tings.
Yes, we all like different stuff and what works for me might not work for somebody else but I’ll stick to Indys and will try to find boards with dimensions I like and can skate instead of trying this.
Went from some sptifire F4 58mm 97a to some Bones x 56mm 97a and really missing the spits.
The bones are actually better for skating and doing tricks at a park or somewhere with decent ground but the spits were all terrain monsters. Screeched to a halt on a piece of bark with the bones and a whole year with the spits didn’t have one hang up. Also skating to the spot is noticeably more work as everything feels rougher. Even ended up walking bits that I would normally skate over.
Anyway thought I’d share that little annoyance.
Would love to find a trick friendly bigger wheel. Maybe some spit classics in a big size.
Depends on what stuff you want to skate. Pushing your wheelbase narrower in this way will make your tipping point different so your manuals will be completely different, your timing will be totally differnent with every pop. Of course, you can get used to anything over time but the transition period of relearning is not worth it for me.
Moving truck shite over here…
Emailed Shiner via a couple of emails I found. Their Contact Us form doesn’t work haha. We shall see if I get anything back…
Probably/maybe/likely/maybenot…Forged plates reduce the height to 53.5ish on a stage 11 which is similar to the 9/10. I’m looking at them now and 10 / 11 hangars side by side aren’t noticably different, however 10 has a more recessed cup for the bottom (board side) bushing and when mounting onto the forged plate this then reduces the axle height further. Yoke narrower which will catch the washers earlier.
I’m sort of cutting it fine with 54mm wheels as it is and they may be too much for the 10’s on the forged plate of the 11, although the tighter turn/narrower yolk may mitigate this a little, I’d probably still have to drop to 50-52mm. Could use my old 54s which are now 52…
Or maybe I should shut the fuck up and crack on with knocking axles back a couple of times per session
Edit - Had a reply from Shiner and a warranty form to fill out.
what is “axle slip”?
When you fail too many flip tricks/land primo, it knocks the axle sideways, binding the wheel(s) on one side, so you need to knock the axle back by smacking it on the floor. Its a pain in the arse.
I think I get that on all my Indys but they’re perfect apart from that.
Not gonna bother with the local distributor who’s quite penny-pinching and won’t respect the terms of Independent’s warranty policy anyway.
It’s kinda annoying but not such a big deal.
Surely distro just claim with indy? They would never put the cost of replacing product under warranty on the distro, that’s mad!
I have skated for over thirty years, I primo on a daily basis and literally never (knowingly) had a axle move. What the fuck
Is this @Mike imagining things or is this an actual thing?
Form is via NHS who then authorise the warranty claim
Doh, just seen that was in reply to Franc.
It’s a reason on the warranty form!
Same here, must have missed 95% of tricks I’ve tried since 1990 and never ever heard of it. Although I’ve seen footage of pros in vids banging the axle nut on the ground then checking the wheel spins so I guess that’s that?
Just assumed that was another type of skater OCD like constantly adjusting your trousers etc
You guys are groms.
0:59-1:10. I do think about that very often when I have to smack my trucks on the floor or on a coping.
Is it more prevalent with Indy perhaps? My mate had a pair of stage 8 and the entire axle slid out on one. It does get worse the more it happens too.
Lol I feel like I’m being gaslighted now. Yeah never seen it or heard of it before. Hope you manage to get replacements
Never heard of it before a few years back when I started skating regularly with a guy who moved to Sheffield around that time. Wondered what all the truck smacking was about until I asked. Indys again in his case.
