Equipment Thread

Prof Schmitt has talked about this. The wheel core widths vary between wheels/manufacturers (as do the width of various bearing spacers) so you do have to be careful about cranking down.

I usually crank down until I hear a squeak and the bearings rumble then loosen them off until no thread showing on the axle. I do try to use bearing spacers and usually 2-3 washers per wheel. But that’s my madness.

I use spacers too even though they don’t fit my wheels. The reason why is that if I take them out I’ll lose them

I leave them out, but keep them in my box of bits. Just in case someone needs 50 of them.

I have had the same set for about 30 years. Think of the savings.

I love bearings with a built in spacer. Bones Race Reds, Bilt-in etc. You can tighten the wheel down and it’ll still spin freely.

I used to have Seismic Tektons with a built in spacer and they were great but when I switched to Spitfire wheels the core was too wide or something because the 2 halves of the spacer didn’t meet up and if I tightened them too much they seized up

I don’t use spacers. I once did after a mate recommended I tried doing that and they made my setup sound like I had just gotten it from Poundland.

Not trying to be funny but I don’t see how using them could prevent the axle from slipping…?

If you have spacers in, your hanger, bearings and bolts create a solid whole so even if your axle was completely loose, it wouldn’t move.

Yeah I see but it won’t solve the problem as the axles of my trucks are neither completely loose nor completely stable. It’s still gonna move when my board hits the ground or a wall or something.

If you tighten the wheel nuts fully against the bearings, with spacers in, it won’t go anywhere. It can’t because there’s no space to move.

This does make sense but I suppose it also does make your setup sound weird…?
I like having a bit of play with my wheels.

Yeah it will I reckon. I’m gonna try it out tonight. Mine is already clinical/sharp sounding due to the forged plates.

Yeah totally, you get that solid clunk sound when you drop it on its wheels that only middle aged vert skaters enjoy.

Ouch, I’ll stick to smacking my Indys on coping then.

oof, savage

Slipping axle saga update - I filled in the warranty form with pics and receipt attached over to NHS at lunch. Got a reply then the tracking info within 6 hours (however I do not know what is in the box, it might just be some stickers ). Thanks @Mark for pointing me doing the warranty route, I’d probably just have put up with it and not bothered as I’ve had the trucks for over 4 years.

Seismic tektons… of course!

Do you drive? Im guessing Polestar

Fuck off! They look more like something that swasticar drivers would go for.

Seismic is owned by famous glider and turner Daniel Gesmer.

Can anyone advise a way to remove glue residue from a deck after taking off the grip? Is that even possible? Rubbing alcohol maybe?
