Equipment Thread

It’ a gonz face reissue. I did get a reply when I left a comment in the chat saying I wanted to cancel. He said he was in hospital with a suspected heart attack, so I obviously cut him some slack and said I’d be prepared to wait a bit. Then I looked at their fb page and there was some comments from customers 2-3 months back wanting to know what was happening with their orders, and he had said he was in hospital with a heart attack then. It’s possible he’s had repeat heart attacks, but also could be just be a fabrication. I’ll prob leave it for another couple of weeks.

In the process of setting up cruiser and for some reason wanted risers.

When did they become more hard plastic than rubber?
Might have to try and find my old risers now as these indy ones don’t feel great

yeah that tripped me out. i likely the soft ones. solid plastic ones seem counterproductive really

Ah so it’s not just a one off, that sucks then, wish the descriptions on shop sites was a little clearer (not all shop sites suck for descriptions mind)

My old risers are with my old Indies I think, which are fuck knows where in the house

i have some ancient “lucky” world industries rubber risers for waaaaaay waaaaaay back that have been on almost every single board i ever skated. im going to retire them soon because id be sad if i lost them

I have hd the same risers for maybe 20 years or more. Rubber obviously and I regard them as shock pads more than risers just to take a little pressure off that area where the the (mainly) back baseplate is tight against the deck.
I always think of it like if you try and snap a pencil off the edge of a hard edged table or off the edge of the sofa arm.

Ever done that but not had the pencil far enough over the edge of the table? That’s a shock to the wrist.

Agreed though I see them more as a shock absorber of sorts, which is why I’m so baffled by these independent ones, didn’t want to go searching for my old ones but will have to now it seems.

Please let me know if you find proper rubber ones

I got some soft ones a while ago. Not thick, only a few mm, but enough to make a difference with massive wheels.

Sushi I think? I ended up picking them up off ebay.

I’ve still got my 3mm Indy rubber shock pads on my board from 20 years ago. Like triggers broom

They are now probably 2mm and squashed to fuck but i love the softer feel under my feet .

I should get another set but they ain’t broke.

Actually I just remembered the boss ordered a roll of rubber mating and it was delivered next to my bench but I didn’t unpack it to see how thick it is.

If it’s between 2-4mm I’ll knock a set up see how they skate. If they work I could make some sets for people on here .

Does anyone on here ride Ace trucks? I’m keen to give them a try for a change from my usual Thunders as heard some good things.
Only thing that I’m not quite sure of is which size to go for.

I ride an 8.25 on 148 Thunders. Ace don’t do an inbetween size so I can’t decide if the 33 or 44 would be best. I’m not keen on seeing my wheels or truck bolts sticking out so am leaning towards 33s but not sure if they’ll be a bit too small.

Any advice is appreciated

I’ve got 44s on an 8, using 54mm wheels, no pokage really.

I’d definitely day 44s over 33s on an 8.25

I’ve got Ace 44s on an 8.25, and they only just don’t show.

If the axle is 1/4” or so wider than the deck your wheels line up with the deck: there’s usually 1/8” of thread sticking out at the end of the wheel nuts

omg i would totally pay for a set of custom Chopper rubber risers!!

Me too.

Transrisers…

i’m surprised there’s so many here that ride risers. my trucks are generally lowish. y’all riding low trucks or just love that wheel clearance?

These were (are) in my spares drawer.

I usually ride 52s without risers - although I do have a Vision Gonz reissue with some on.

I’ve skated with and without over the years and I think I prefer the clearance.

Most of my skating abilities rely on chance rather than skill, so they they don’t make much difference really.

There was a kid a school who used to stick an extra riser on his back truck for extra pop.
