any reccs on 54mm cruiser wheels? got a few rough spots i want to skate so going to stick some softies on my spare set up
Last year I got some Ricta Clouds and recently some OJ Keyframes. Both 52s, but I’d rate them for rough stuff - 54s should be good too.
Get Ace 44’s for an 8.25-8.5 board. They’re the same as Thunder 148s. Got some 147s on an 8.25 and the seem ever so slightly narrow compared the Ace 44s on my old board.
Posting this for the Skuda really, which the kids love to mess about on. Found it at an antiques fair for a tenner a few years ago. Anyone know anything about them? Had to replace the wheels as they were so soft you couldn’t push on it.
Given I’ve not bothered looking for my old ones yet, I’d probably be up for a set.
Still need set o bearings n wheels for this setup, so it’s not being built anytime soon
I remember Skuda. My mate Rob had one. I think they were UK produced. They weren’t made of washing up bowl PU like the polyprop banana boards but some sort of fibreglass iirc. Skuda did make a reasonable wheel at some point but those didn’t come on the set up you have. Loose bearings and slow wheels didn’t stop me from bumboarding down a hill on it at what I considered to be breakneck speed and coming to an abrupt stop by legs akimbo sacking a road sign. That was possibly’77/‘78. It took a good while after that to convince my Mum that skateboarding wasn’t dangerous. I did manage to get a G&S Warptail with Pure Juice out of her after months of nagging though. She says to this day that it was without a doubt simultaneously the best and worst thing that she’s ever bought me
Interesting cheers mate. Yeah it’s definitely fibreglass with a metal plate on the bottom. It’s heavier than the modern board!
How’s the shape on that Mason board?
I’ve ridden the exact same, square-ass FA/Hockey shape for over a year - and can’t really imagine changing - but I remember seeing one of Mason’s pro boards in person and feel like it was a fuller shape than your usual popsicle. Basically, it seemed more beefed out on the nose and tail and that’s kinda what that one looks like.
I’m all for riding the shoes/boards of pros you’re into so would be hyped to skate Mason board at some point if the shape’s not too far off what I’m used to.
It’s the first symmetrical board I’ve ridden and it’s really square. Took some getting used to but I couldn’t imagine riding anything different now.
Same. The 8.5" with the super square shovel nose is my all time favourite shape (so far!)
Thinking about stepping up a board size into the big boy leagues of 8.75" - 9" and noticed there’s a new 9" Hockey out…
About a year ago one of my friends, who I skate with pretty much more than anyone else, was like “I don’t know understand how you skate those shovels.”
“Trust me mate, they’re the best. Skate one square board and you won’t want to ride anything else.”
Then he got a Quasi board last summer and he’s only skated those and Hockey since, haha.
I stood on a Anti Hero 8.5 Eagle in the shop and it felt like I was looking down on a Zip Zinger it was that pointy!
I get you there, and regarding the “big boy leagues”…
I tried doing an 8.5" Hockey, ages ago, but it was too hench.
There’s something about the squareness of F.A./Hockey boards which makes them feel ever so slightly bigger than the size they are.
An 8.38" in any other brand just doesn’t feel quite right but in those too it’s perfect. 8.5" feels fucking huge though, ha.
Hi guys, if anyone knows where I can buy a pair of “ace 22s copper trucks” please let me know, they seem to have sold out everywhere. Would be grateful thanks
Have you checked if the gents over at Legacy in Darlington have any? How about Palomino?
No luck so far but I’ve sent them a message to see if they can find a pair, cheers dude
You could try dropping Wes and the guys at Rock Solid Dist a message to ask if they have a record of stockists for that particular size/colour.
I have found the polished silver 22’s via Parade: Shop Ace Trucks 02 Low Skateboard Trucks - Polished | ParadeWorld
You could always get these and spray paint them?
dunno whether I’m going mad but is it easy to get slappy grinds on larger setups? Currently on 7.875 with 8 inch trucks. I was thinking of a larger setup, 9 inch deck and 169 trucks. I mean I pretty much have frontside slappy grinds but fancy another setup haha.
You definitely need a 9” setup.
