Anybody tempted by a slick? Seem to be reappearing. Feels like every skateable edge anywhere in the world is already waxed and worn in, and I think I need as much extra pop as possible now.

You get 48 in a pack. They’re sticky but I put a wide head nail through it anyway to hold it in. They work fantastically

I only had a couple of slicks when they were first a thing but all I remember is the slick prolonged the razor tail and led to rubbish pop plus the slide felt weird, like it would stick sometimes and not others. As far as I know most people bought them cos a deck was £50 and it made them stronger. How come it’s become a thing again now a deck is still £50 ish but wages have increased a bazillion since 1992?

I liked them at the time but got right into not having them when that became trendy instead.

Skating one now, more by accident than intent. It’s a Krooked Bobby Worrest twin tail, as I’m a fan of twin tail boards now. The slick makes little difference to me to be honest, but others’ experiences may vary.

I wouldn’t mind trying one, just looked and you’re right, way more slicks than I expected. Even Palace do a slick

I had a welcome slick and couldn’t work out if it was the shape or the fact it was a slick that made it feel so crap to ride.

Hockey do a wood deck with a square of slick embedded in the centre for those who can’t fully commit.

I think Madness are doing decks with slick on the nose and tail.

I thought it was just Polar doing a 90’s nostalgia hit, which sort of makes sense for them, but it seems like there are quite a few about.

I never really liked slicks. I did like this one and got it for a wall hanger and ended up skating it.

I recall a weird phase where my friends with slicks would peel the slick off….

This was my first. The slick just meant the board was indestructible even long after it had no pop left. Which meant 12 year old me having to skate it for ages after I wanted it gone cos my parents were like “it still works”. Ended up hating it and spending an afternoon trying to focus it by jumping on it from a height loads of times.

I’ve got one of those here. I have loads of OG slicks.

i said this before here but whoever suggested sanding down fresh grip tape is a genius. i skate “used” griptape 95% of the time anyway, what’s the point in having it be super grippy for a few days and wearing my shoe down

I got so excited about skateboarding the other night that I’ve ordered a small board, venture trucks and small wheels instead of the wide cruiser board with Indys I’ve been riding last 8 years.

Hoping to be able to flip the board and get back to a reasonable standard, am probably dreaming though.
