This is going to be one those things where I wait a decade to move up from a 7.75. I finally do it and the whole of skateboarding decide that actually 7.5 was where it was at all along
What’s a slick?
Edit: going on the name it’s presumably some sort of finish that slides more than normal, but yeah… never come across them.
Wow, we got a young-un here.
They were pretty good from what I remember, not had one in 30 years mind. A Real Tommy Guerrero Elvis slick iirc
Can catch you by surprise if you aren’t used to it (the slide I mean, not the fact that you have a slick)
Yeah, that’s mad. Slicks were good when they were new but when the slick wore through unevenly it’d look really horrible.
I had a Ron Chatman MSG slick as well, wasn’t that plasticky skin, it looked (and flaked off) like a thin layer of car filler. Did MSG have that ‘Wax Wood’ technology? Anyone remember? Maybe that was it. Although am pretty sure it wasn’t
The first slick I had was absolutely hopeless. Can’t recall the brand but it had a pretty thick sort of plastic that was too soft and a couple of slides on anything remotely rough just tore it to pieces, perhaps it was only meant for steel coping. The only other one I remember having was possibly a Plan B, had a Gieger/Alien graphic. That was thinner and harder stuff but I still wasn’t that keen, just remembered it feeling heavy.
My first one was an H-Street Colby Carter with a barcode changing into zebras on it, then it was several Big Spins with nothing on them for me.
I had a slick Ron Chatman - a ‘bargain bin’ effort from Slam iirc. The thing started to delam in next to no time. Not the actual wood laminates, but the graphic part of the slick began to peel away. I pulled it off and was left with a pinkish, flesh coloured layer as the bottom ply. It was weird - not slick, not wood, just some strange plastic layer that they had adhered the slick to.
The only slick that I had that I actually liked skating was a Plan B Rodney Mullen.
This one.
(I learned slappy noseslide, crook popovers on a freestanding curb on that and rinsed the hell out of that trick that summer).
Danny Way Shotgun Slick was my second deck. Loved it.
I think I rode slicks exclusively for years after having this one. Loads of Jocke Olson Zebedee and Big Spin Blanks
My first one.
That shotgun deck may be my favouritest graphic ever.
Did some random have it and returned it to you like 20 years later?
Nah, Some kid turned up with a Sal lowrider slick deck and was skating it, he found it in a shed at his parents or something.
Ah, right.
Love slicks, would have nothing but them until they went away.
Standouts I had, Mouly shuttle, Alien Way, Stereo Pastras kaliedescope, powell streetfisghter, Cao baseball cards, Cardiel sweets, Powell pat brennan meat, Ed T vegan cow, probably more
Made my own version of the mouly slick, found the image from nasa and reworked it. Laminated with some clear floor vinyl so it feels like a slick. Been riding it the whole year I think haha
Hope Crailtap have more of the Crob twin tail decks made, seem to be sold out everywhere. I’d like a twin tail with a smaller wheelbase (14") than the Krooked and Real ones. It might be a one off deck, not sure, have messaged them on Insta.
DLX wheelbases are crazy. Shame because I’d love to skate their boards.
The new Lintell 8.25 has a 14.12 wheelbase which isn’t the 14 I’d love but I’ll get it if I can.
What we heard about these Oski trucks?
I guess wait till someone that doesn’t get paid to ride them gives their opinion.
Bit of a shit name.
Actual words are used up, time to make some shit up. Although this sounds way more like a cookery app than skateboard hardware.
