I’ll stick with:

Saw Warfare. Now feel very on edge.

I’m not quite sure how I would rate it. It felt more like a scene from a film, as oppose to a fully formed film in itself - I think that was probably the point, being created from the memories of the soldiers only, so it’s supposed to feel very self contained and purely in the moment. It’s very well done, the sound design is crushing. The action is very physical. You feel like you’re there.

It’s not quite an ‘America fuck yeah’ war film, but the Iraq war did exist within that sort of mentality at the time, so it does still position itself as America = good guys, Iraqi’s = bad guys just through the act of not taking a side.

Maybe I’m way over thinking it. Definitely worth watching, I did enjoy it (more than I did Civil War), it just felt like it needed something extra.

I liked how it has no music and you hardly see the ‘baddies’ and it’s basically filmed in 3 rooms of a house for 90 mins. Super tense.

Genuinely one of the best films I’ve watched in years at the cinema, may have to watch it once more before it’s not on imax because watching it on a tv will be completely different.

It’s pretty funny

watched warfare last night. so harrowing. lost a mate in a iraq and this just shows the futility of it all. important that things like this are made.

on the other hand watched sinners on Thursday and that is a delightful romp. so much fun to be had.

Picked Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies to watch tonight as he’s one of my favourite directors and it was the only film of his I hadn’t yet seen.

Holy fucking fuck. Evening absolutely ruined.

Tried out Exterritorial on Netflix at the weekend. German, ex military woman, goes to US embassy, her kid disappears, nobody confirms her kid was with her etc, kickings all round.

Lasted 30 minutes, completely nonsensical, doing things and going places in the embassy with no idea of where she’s going or what she’s doing. Dougray Scott speaking German, then dubbed into English, people keep saying “German or English”, they respond “English”, but keep speaking German

Honestly it was like AI wrote it, but the AI was Hal9000 midway through being switched off in 2001

Watched Cure (1997) (Japanese thriller) on Saturday. If you haven’t seen it definitely worth a viewing. Apparently Bong Joon Ho’s favourite film and I can see why.

Something about that early to mid-90s Japanese aesthetic is so appealing

haha yeah. Already thinking about going back in.

I always thought Satoshi Kon and anime back then were drawing this sort of imaginary world but Japan kind of looks the same on film

excited face!
