Not watched 28 Years Later (part one) yet, but I heard about the Savilles …this trailer does not fill me with much hope to be honest. Kinda seems like a Black Mirror episode where the world has ended and the youth start worshipping a copy of this they found in a peados flat
But the Saville thing is exactly the point, no?
These kids had their world destroyed ten years before Saville died - and was outed as the scumbag he was - so they come from a world where he is a national hero. And there are tellytubbies still.
So, growing up and looking a certain way to remember a more innocent time makes sense - and the fact it is Saville is a clear subtext at play.

hold on, is this actually a thing? I barely watched the trailer above and thought that there were a bunch of ridiculous constume ideas and made a joke. Not watched 28 years either.

Yeah that was the most interesting idea in the film, how different communities had developed in isolation.
In 28 years later, the village had regressed in to a puritanical ye olde world way of living and the Jimmys had gone mad on Saville and Power Rangers.
More Sampson penis in the next one. 28 inches later and all that.

I made a joke that some goons in a trailer looked like Saville with no idea to the actual plot. Garlic kinda confirmed my joke but onlu LS alluded that the Saville angle IS part of the story. So I was surprised, that’s all.

I googled it and apparently it’s LA superior courthouse. previously CNA. no idea if it has a cool name though.

Loved the editing and just whole fucked-upness of it all. Love an ambiguous ending.
I love ari but I didn’t get beau is afraid at all.
Eddington is WAY better and def worth a watch.

Beau is Afraid was for ages, but it just always seemed too long for me to commit to for a movie no one seemed to be talking about.

alright nice one. will give it a shot. loved all his earlier stuff but beau just didn’t hit for me. and it’s a shame because I think somewhere in there there’s a really good film
Watched Highest 2 Lowest, the new Spike Lee last night. It was a bit all over the shop tbh. Denzel was pretty great, obviously, as was Jeffrey Wright, and the final 1/3 was pretty enjoyable - but everything leading up to that was a mixed bag. Some of the editing and scene blocking was really amateurish, and the soundtrack was godawful. It felt a bit like he’d spliced a thriller and a c-tier TV drama together.
On the other hand, I watched this a few days ago and really rated it (despite the generic title). Nothing we haven’t seen before, but a really tight story and excellent performances. The aussies do bleak like no one else.
The soundtrack to highest 2 lowest was so diabolical. Imagine watching it back and being like ‘yup, nailed it’.
The rest of the film was enjoyable but yeah, messy.
Got round to Weapons at the weekend, not really sure why people were salivating over it so much

did a pretty heavy film night with some friends last night.
we did 12.12: the day (Korean film about the 1979 coup), ice cube’s war of the worlds, and z (Costa gavras).
ice cube’s war of the worlds was just wow. I’ve seen bad films but that is something else. apparently took them 15 days to film and 2 years to edit. at the end of it felt like my head had been in a blender. rating fully deserved haha

That ice cube war of the worlds sounds terrible. Might have to watch it. Is there a zoom in on his face while he says ‘motherfucker’ shot in there?
