I keep meaning to get into Veep. I know it’s not an American remake of The Thick of it and as Armando is still behind it so it wouldn’t be compromised in the same way an American version of a British Comedy usually is.

Twin Peaks

Watched Irishman last night, wasn’t feeling as much as I thought I would. Acting is superb but plot is far too dragged out. Quite a let down imo but the last half an hour was fantastic

Seems to be getting 5 star reviews across the board but all the reviews I’ve read don’t really ‘review’ the film as such. Just talk about Scorserse and the de-ageing process a lot

I think that is because it’s pretty much going straight up on Netflix too, so they didn’t have to keep it as tight. You can chill at home and pause it for food, the toilet, ect and make a whole evening of the film. Was kind of their thinking I’ve read.

Does Monty Python’s Flying Circus count?

Veep is great.

Just watched knives out.
Go watch.

The best Scorsese film is Hugo.

Obviously.

I didn’t know this was coming and didn’t have high hopes for the trailer, but it looks quite good.

Ignores the remake and follows on from the original films.

I’m with the opinion that this new ghostbusters is just not needed. Flogging a dead horse and sticking Paul Rudd in the mix wont make gold.

Looks shite to me, CGI car, Stranger Things “aesthetic”… bah

I agree, I’d like to see remakes of films that could’ve been done a lot better rather than cynically bringing back popular classics to add more marketing clout.

Plenty of room in the cinema for me then!:smiley:

In SA in the 80’s when sanctions were in full force, so little international brands were knocking about, Simba chips made ‘Ghost Pops’ on the back of the ghostbuster hype. They’re amazing and one of the most ubiquitous items in SA expat shops globally. Except in Australia, where there’s an import ban on them for some reason. Personally, I think e-numbers are fun.

Anyway, I fucking love ghostbusters and I’ve already ignored that other remake that I didn’t bother watching and am hyped for this one. Too bad we don’t have modern day Ackroyds and Murrays though.

Started watching The Irishman the other night and got half way through before needing to go to bed.
Might watch the rest now.
It was pretty good in that typical Scorsese way.

Just got back from watching the new Star Wars. Anything I say is just going to be a spoiler of some kind, so I’ll just say that I really liked it. It wasn’t perfect but it was a lot, lot better than I expected.

Anybody watched The Mule?
I’m watching it now and Clint Eastwood is great.
I’ve also torrented two films, first time in ages I’ve torrented.
Once upon a time in H’wood and Joker.
Got them in 4k.
Checked the Joker for quality on my new monitor earlier and 4K is bananas.
My monitor isn’t full 4k, just 1440p but it downscales just fine.

I thought Rise of Skywalker was ok, nothing partcularly special overall but some enjoyable battles and a great score. The only recent one I’d want to see again would be Rogue One.

Not been super-impressed by much lately but we watched The Lighthouse last night and now I want to watch it again. What a film. If you like Lovecraft, Lynch, old British TV horrors like Whistle and I’ll Come to You then you’ll love this. Instant classic.

Where did you watch it? Can’t wait to see The Lighthouse!

Have you seen Eggers’ other film, Witch? It’s quite nuts… very obvious that him and Ari Aster are good mates.
