The first MI film is a Brian De Palma classic.

All his stylistic tropes, it’s excellent.

I re-watched the untouchables during paternity leave. Love me some BDP.

My daughter is only ten though and tends to compare things at face value on account of not being well versed in cinema history.

Oh yeah I get that and I’m sure you’ll point out the error of her ways to her once she is old enough, haha. Jokes of course.

It’s on YT if you can handle the random subs

Looked it up: 5th highest rated on imdb and it’s just a bunch of lads in one room chatting. One of the very best films ever made for sure.

I have trouble watching most contemporary movies and tv shows as it’s generic, shallow, derivative drivel, that seems to be entirely devoid of any charm or substance, (please bear in mind I’m geriatric). There’s the occasional thing that’s passable but very little that doesn’t feel like I’ve wasted my time watching it.

I discovered the Talking Pictures TV channel a few years back and it has some gems on there. Classics, B-Movies, Friday night horrors, CFF Saturday morning pictures films and a bit of social history, docs and the like.

There’s also a bit of shockingly bad shit from the 70’s eg Now for Nookie, but on the whole you won’t feel lobotomised for switching it on.

I have a zoom through the week’s schedule and set the Sky box to record whatever and I’m done. I’d say at least 80% of what I have recorded on the hard drive is from TPTV. Can recommend - even if you haven’t received your free bus pass yet.

Sounds like you might well know this already but I still think it’s important to remember that there’s so much good stuff being made as well, I finally got around to watching this last week after I missed it when it was on at the cinema:

Can’t really explain too much of what’s good about it without almost spoiling it but I think I can safely say it’s not shallow or derivative or drivel.

Cool. I’m a Murakami fan so will line it up for a go.

That does also make me think that the majority of contemporary films/ shows that I’ve enjoyed of late have all been foreign i.e. non English dialogue. Not trying to make any kind of point with that. It’s merely an observation.

I will say it gave me PTSD after my own university experience which was in 2006 when the film was set.

The bathtub scene, jeeez !

The lead posho (Jacob Elordi) absolutely nailed it for an Aussie

The only thing I know about that film is how excited the two girls in my team got about the old boy with an absolute length on him that kept windmilling it about for all to see which didnt exactly spur me on to go see it

Yeah, could have walked straight off Made In Chelsea.

Thought he was Canadian for some reason.

He nails Elvis in Priscilla too.

Yeah I saw it yesterday, liked it, maybe didn’t love it but good smashy explodey stuff. I bet Simon Says by Pharoah Monch has a 2nd wind after this

Dirty bastard

Went to the cinema with my eldest and his friend to watch Wish.

Definitely sits on the meh spectrum. No need for it whatsoever.

Watched Leave The World Behind last night at a friend’s house, that’s a pile of warm shit.
Terrible acting, a complete mess of a film in terms of style and editing, camera work that was completely wild yet also did nothing to enhance or move the “story” on.
I’m also completely unsure what the aim or story of the film was.

I thought the ending would explain a lot of what I watched, but no.
