Still feeling pretty unwell and needed a film to zone out to. I chose something called Copshop which turned out to be way better than probably anyone would expect. A properly done B-movie with a decent script - like a funnier Assault on Precinct 13.

Scott Pilgrm vs The World.

Love it. Absolutely love it.

Is that a new Japanese one? The last one was amazing, Shin Godzilla, basically a horror film about government bureaucracy. With a big fuck off lizard. Also loved the way they used the OG SFX
.

This is really entertaining if you have adhd. Hugh Grant is hilarious.

Much more enjoyable than other stupid movies like bullet train or the Meg 2 or whatever.

Watched its a wonderful life, haven’t seen it in decades, absolutely top tier cinema, forgot how great the dialogue was in older films

On the opposite side of the scale I just watched this because I wanted some mindless fun.

What a fucking stinking fucking turd. That has to be the worst action film ever I’ve ever seen. It has to be.

Actually a bit shocked at how bad it was. You can’t even easily laugh at it because it’s actually too stupid, beyond cheesy and most of all beyond boring.

Oh yeah, that was diabolical.
I believe Dougray Scott was signed up to be Wolverine in x-men and missed out because of having to do reshoots on this turd.

The third one was a banger.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the baddie? Have a word.

Going through a rewatch of Sunshine. Follows The Martian. Prior to that Alien, Aliens, Prometheus and Covenant. Bit of a SF run I guess.

I did watch that Netflix one with Julia Roberts recently which was ok.

This is my favourite black and white film:

12 Angry Men. A film set in one room and it never feels like a play. Properly brilliant.

I’ve never seen the Alaistair Sim Christmas Carol. That’s supposed to be the definitive one. Might get that one in this year.

Oooh will watch that, never tried it, thanks!

That is definitely the one to avoid! Pretty much all the others are great though, the last time I saw the first one I was actually surprised by how good it was. 3 is also good as is the most recent one, Fallout, it probably has some of the most realistic looking action scenes (probably because Cruise actually did half of it) I’ve ever seen.

If I need something that is so bad it’s good then it’s Steven Seagal every time.

Watched the most recent one with my daughter and she loved it so we went to watch the first one. She was so appalled by the downgrade we stopped watching it.

Had similar issues with Star Wars as well.

I like the very first one and I really like the Simon Pegg era ones because they sort of feel like you’re on a rollercoaster or something.

I was stunned how shit the second one was. It looks terrible and is preposterous how cliched it would’ve been, even at the time.

The plot. The action. The slow mo. The sheer number of mindless goons who can’t aim. Cruise’s horrific hair cut. The TERRIBLE combat. Action scenes which exist for no reason. Every scene involving a motorbike is just beyond. Honestly could keep going on and on at how terrible every single thing about it is.

There’s one properly laugh out loud moment when the goodies and baddies are doing the shooty explody stuff and there’s a shot of a load of security storming the building.

After a bit the scene ends and just fades to the next day and everyone is out and about chatting. Who edited this?! Did you forget about them being circled by all the security?! How did they all get out. It’s bad on that basic level.

Might watch Under Siege again to decompress.

It’s a John Woo film right, MI:2? Which is why it possibly doesn’t work? I just remember critics saying at the time how he was the wrong choice. Never watched one of them.

Also comparing Star Wars to a modern film franchise is unfair… the first ones were made in the 70s, then the 90s and then from 2015… of course there is going to be massive differences in film making technology.

#massive Star Wars fan but know they are far from perfect or the best films ever made.
