I get your point though, pre season friendly tournament basically, funded by PIF through DAZN so there’s money involved
I bet it looked great on paper, teams playing teams that usually wouldn’t. In reality it’s all a bit of nothing. Everyone will go back to their leagues and the established competitions and it will all be forgotten within a week.
It’s a bit like winning the Charity Shield isn’t it. Technically a trophy, but it isn’t counted in anything.
The main problem I have with the CWC is that as Neddy pointed out, the already super rich Citeh, Chelski, Real, PSG etc get richer.
It’s going to seriously skew the smaller leagues too - like Auckland City (an amateur team) who got $M’s for their inclusion just to tick the box of having someone from that part of the world.
Oh and no one is going to the games. I just checked and there’s availability in every stand for PSG vs Bayern in Atlanta on Saturday.

There are a ton of teams bunched up around 90 points and I guess their 9th place finish boosted them. Wolves are only 3 points behind them in 44th place

Also just checked some Club World Cup bits, Real have earned £43million by making the Quarters.
Trent at £8.4million with an assist for a goal that earnt them £10million looks a good bit of business.
It’s a poultry £125million if you win it.
