An hour and a bit tonight. Usual shit really. Zoomed my board into once of the lads by accident on a switch front shuv which bummed me out a little
But also given a tip for backside kickflips which I followed then pretty much landed the next two I did afterwards. Then got a hanger straight to my knee which ended play. Hopefully back out tomorrow.
Picked up a new board I’d had ordered in for me, another Girl G023. Been a bit of a drought with crail G026/023 shapes so thought I’d get one whilst they were about.
Went Newsham this morning fun skate met a guy ftom Newcastle whos name is eluding me right now was killing it. Then went DIY Mal couldnt be arsed with it and he was driving so went to the red curbs at Fender got a switch heel on the tiny bank for the 50 then Mal had to battle me for a fakie tre. He won as usual.sick skate. Noticably at least to me a buch of new peoply starting to skate so obviously encouraged and gave advice.
Back from a late night skate. First in months. Just reverts, power slides, a few ollies, shuvits and no complys. No complaint from my knee thankfully. Should do that more often.
There was a beginners skate class on which was cool to see but I bailed early as I didn’t want to get in the way. Not that I was doing any tricks anyway, complete jelly legs, plus new trucks to break in, but to echo James, it was fun to have a roll around again.
Managed a couple of hours. Decent skate, started getting my confidence back on the flatbank and got front shuv and a (held on to) 360 flip both first try - decided I didn’t need to do anything else after the 360 flip. Felt well pro for a fleeting millisecond
How nice must it feel to have hard tricks on lock….
4ft high at a guess. Lovely quiet village never usually anyone there. Village is lacking a good pub mind but theres 2 five minutes drive away that are banging. Good swim spot too.
On holidays in Helsinki and hit up 4 skateparks today… Had to roll by Suhvilahti, it’s the total opposite of what I like. The surface is so crusty and uneven (I’d forgotten how bad), with tight, indimidating transitions all around. It’s a real measure of a top tier skater to see them blaze around here at Helride or whatever, it’s really difficult to skate.
The entire are has gradually been built up, a bit like Dublin’s docklands, but not as depressingly subserviant to corporations, and apparently the entire Suhvlahati cultural complex will be flattened and turned into new apartments or something.
Also went to Wamma Park, which is just curbs and ledges, with a little quarter thing too. Always good fun.
At Elaintarhu/Micropolis, they have a skate school community thing going on (run by the same people who do Helride) and have a load of spare boards to loan/hire out to old skaters getting gnarlical with their kids.
Wrapped up at this other one Pikku Huopladen, nothing over 1.2m and a 5m long freestanding granite curb, buzzing.
25km of cycling around the city too, good times.
Couple of incredibly low level skateboarding tricks from the past few days. Annoying that I’m back at a lower level than I was during the filming of Bun This, but that’s what you get for taking 8 months off. Can’t complain about being shit if I don’t skate
Finally got pop shoves back though, so that’s something i guess
