Let’s talk about diversity of opinion for a moment. You’ll know that I’ve had some pretty serious disagreements with people on this site about Brexit - Buildafire, Neddy and one or two others. I know they absolutely hate everything I stand for, and they know I’m no fan of their views. But as far as I can remember I’ve not veered into personal abuse. People have different views. The thing is to play the ball and not the man.

I can assure you that 99% of the nice, tolerant, smart people on here think you’re a complete Michael Fabricant, but they ignore you rather than posting about it. Wish I could ignore you so easily, you disgusting prick.

Your entitled to your diverse opinions, which coincidentally tend to all be rooted in the exact opposite of the meaning of the word.
Why I got so angry is people like you just see it in such myopic terms by depicting them with the classic tropes like ungrateful and whiny.
The story is about a woman - whose mother-in-law was killed by the press - wanting to voice reasoning for why she would want to escape from the system of racism, extreme stiff upper lip, endless fabricated and distorted stories, and character malignment. Until you understand those very explicit terms, I’m just going to label you as the small-minded fuckwit you are.
On the subject of the royal family. Diana died the same day as my birthday, the queen mother the same day as my wee sisters birthday and king George kicked the bucket the day my uncle was born.
My dads birthday is next month so I think Philip ain’t got long left.
Here’s an interesting thing, though.
A big part of what I do for a living is to track public opinion on a whole range of issues. What I find is that the country is pretty much split right down the middle about things like Harry and Meghan.
But on here it’s mostly just me who says certain things, and I get shot down. Are we in danger of living in an echo chamber here?
What do you want, a participation trophy? You get shot down because your opinions are gross. We could all just ignore you I guess. But you’re awful and it feels good to tell you that. So we do.
It’s a forum, we discuss things and argue. If we didn’t, it would just be a bullet point list of opinions.
Basically I’m here because I’m a lifelong skater, and I’m interested in what other skaters think. Also a bit puzzled sometimes at the mismatch between opinions on this particular site and opinions in the U.K. as a whole
On the whole, if you know where to ask, you’re going to get a pretty even split, I’m sure. Need to get some stats you want? Head to Stoke!
But younger people, smarter, more engaged people aren’t evenly split. Isn’t that weird? People like you really don’t go down well in skateboarding, so I’m glad you and Trawler have found each other and you’ve got your own little bubble.
You post makes it sound like you expect anybody here to go, “Huh, this is an echo chamber! Maybe we should get rid of the foreigners!” and you’re just so deluded. I get that your whole life has been a big Tory circle jerk* and you’re probably well-liked by those creatures, but guess what! It’s not the olden days anymore, and people like you aren’t welcome in the modern world, let alone in skateboarding.
*Probably literally, with daddy and his friends from work.
