Skateboarding isn’t particularly special, you have such a cross section of people within it but it does throw people into places and situations with other cultures and people so they see more often than not that there are good people everywhere across the world, not many other things do that.
There are skaters that stay within bubbles and never experience other worlds so their prejudices stay and sometimes grow into bigger issues.

But it’s so, so rare. We’ve got Trawler here in the UK and Jason Jessee in the States. It’s no coincidence that Warwick is mates with Trawler and followed (until very recently) Jason Jessee on Instagram. Racism definitely exists but it’s so small, to the point where racists - in this case Warwick, Trawler and Jason Jessee - have to exist in their own bubble, separate to actual skateboarding where people are much less cunty.
i feel like regardless of your background/upbringing, skateboarding makes you introspective and thoughtful. you can’t get anywhere with skating without going through some mental and physical shit. i feel like all of that ought to make you more open to other people’s plight and suffering. if you’ve been skating for years and still can’t drum up any empathy then you’re probably a sociopath tbh
