I want one of these.

Instead of the Rolex or as well?

Just post a watch when you’ve got the one you like.

No chance, I shall not be accused of flexing!

I think 3-5 watches is a good number.

Bit late for that mate

What about a Watches, gadgets, gizmos, tech thread?

Watches aren’t really tech though are they? Whereas gadgets and gizmos definitely are.

Yeah but nobody really wants just a watch thread do they.

I’m not a watch person but I get the investment side of it. Dean Delray has a mostly crap podcast but he once had John Mayer on it and they got into about an hour’s worth of watch talk - talking about how they can be compared to rare guitars as ā€˜parachutes’ that can be activated and sold if there’s some cash needed etc. I’ll find the link as it was a genuinely interesting convo.

this is probably a better clip than delray.

He is one of the biggest collectors and has great taste.

I reckon its an easy rabbithole to fall down buying nice watches, its never done much for me personally.

Inheriting anything nice and old would be sweet though, Im still hopeful someone is going to be offloading a decadent old guitar and Ill be in line for it though.

My wifes distant relative was telling me about a Gibson SJ he bought in the 60s but I doubt Ill be at the top of the list for it

I like watches, antiques, anything that holds its value and isn’t disposable. If I’m gonna succumb to consumerism I’d rather it was of the built to last heirloom variety.

Some twat at my old job was whinging about them for investments, my pension isn’t big enough, faaack off.

We just need a flex thread really. Thats what spending £8k on a watch is haha.

Buying a luxury watch isn’t necessarily a flex, but dropping your theoretical luxury watch budget on a message board is DEFINITELY a flex lol.

I do love watches though. But I’d never spend big bucks, and I’d only get one to celebrate something. Like a reward for hitting a goal, big birthday or something. I know I’d get the sweats mid-purchase, thinking about all the better things I could do with that money…

I prefer to have a selection of cheaper ones that I can mix and match. I’ve had loads of flavours of casios, some seikos, skagen etc.

Hahaha.

All my expensive purchases are boring.

How about a ā€˜Fancy but unneccessary things’ thread? That covers fancy watches but then also anything you want to splash big bucks on or aspire to own (maybe not clothes or cars as there’s threads for that).

When I got my first proper job post-uni and moved to London I bought myself a Uniform Wares watch to mark the occasion. I used my entire first pay check (Can’t remember what the monthly take home on Ā£19k a year was, but can’t have been much) plus some savings so I definitely couldn’t afford it at the time haha but it was a nice treat and I’ve worn it pretty much every week since.

Totally. A gift from somebody, or a treat to yourself for a landmark event. You’d feel good wearing that.

Otherwise you could just get your bank balance tattooed on your wrist.
