I had to set up ads on tiktok this week. Just being in it made me feel ooooold. And Snapchat. No idea how to report on them.

Me: Hey look you got 2 thousand ‘swipe ups’.

Every single brand that tries to keep it’s retail prices up will destroy stock.

I have seen some mad stuff. I saw a guy smashing Wedgwood teapots into a skip once. They had been part of a collab range that didn’t sell and they weren’t authorised to do anything else with them after the contract expired. Just smashed every single one.

I have also been in a meeting where all the bosses voted to build a warehouse to store rubbish so that they could meet their scrappage targets for the year. Instead of throwing stuff away, getting a smack on the wrist and paying a fine they literally just put it in a warehouse and left it there until their new allowance kicked in the next year and they binned it.

On the face of it they were meeting all their green targets but in reality it was a mess.

When my girlfriend used to work in House of Fraser in the mid 00s, they would destroy any stock that had any cosmetic defects, like electronics with a scratch on the case or a snagged thread on a pair of jeans, etc. Main reason was to discourage staff from “accidentally” damaging stock in order to get a discount.

I used to have a calculator watch when I was about 9. Saved for ages for the one in the Argos catalogue, freaked out when we got there to buy it because it was so much money (like, 20 quid or something… But that was a LOT in my family at the time) and didn’t buy it. Saw one in a market stall later for about a fiver (prices may be inaccurate), bought that and it lasted for years.

There might be a moral there somewhere.

I like a good Skagen myself, a fair few people comment on mine when I’m wearing one of them. One day I’ll get one of those classic Omega’s but I’m in absolutely no hurry to get one.

I’m an Omega fan. Got a few - some bought, some inherited. The classics are slowly rising in value, but that’s not the point, I just like ‘nice things’.
