Not sure you can just blame religion. Michael Fabricants moaning about wokeness and cancel culture arenāt all especially religious but theyād happily see us dragged back a few centuries.
in the US especially the majority of those right wing Michael Fabricants would strongly identify as christian despite being as far away from the teachings of christ as is possible
see also, Northern Ireland people who can simultaneously identify as atheist and catholic/protestant. Religion and politics tend to have a muddy crossover.
The Iranian protests are terrifying and inspiring at the same time, imagine knowing that there is the real potential for being arrested and executed and these young girls in school are still throwing off their headscarfs and screaming fuck the government. The absolute stones on them, I donāt know if Iād have it in me.
Our calendar is based on religion, BC and AD (Before Christ and Anno Domini, the year of our lord), itās in our legal system and politicalā¦ and thatās just in moderate countries, itās worse in countries with more extreme teachings. Everything is built around religion still, a modern country like America is not allowed to teach about evolution as itās anti-Christian in some parts.
Religion has always held humanity back, weād probably have second homes on Mars and found a cure for cancer by now if religion hadnāt existed and weād be able to of kept striving forward.
While Michael Fabricants might not be that religious these days there is a deep rooted part of it built into the human psyche.
