Like a lot of people out there in the wider country, I’m with Fox.
I don’t think there’s no racism in the UK, but I do think it’s nothing like the 1970s. Back then the National Front was actively campaigning to deport all non-white people, and attracting huge crowds to its regular marches.
But compared to other countries in Europe and beyond, we’re astonishingly tolerant. In France Marine le Pen’s Front Nationale regularly comes second in elections. Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Belgium all have big, explicit far-Right parties. Hungary, India, the list goes on…
Meanwhile, ‘mixed race’ is the fastest growing ethnic group in the UK.
Camilla Parker-Bowles got more abuse from the press and public than Meghan ever did. It was vicious and it went on for years. but she got her head down and got on with her life. People have started to respect her for it now.
Seems to me the problem with Meghan is cultural rather than racial: her culture is Hollywood. Her culture is rubbing shoulders with the Clooneys and Obamas, flying across the Atlantic to watch her friend Serena play tennis while lecturing the rest of us on climate change. She was never that into visiting care-homes in Bolton on a rainy Tuesday afternoon or pretending to be interested listening to a speech by local dignitaries in Aberdeen. She wanted out.
And Laurence Fox was completely right to call out the lazy thinking of the people who fixate on her colour and say ‘it must be racism!’

Fucking hell, that’s a turn-up for the books.

Warwicks considered opinion about racism is what this world was missing. All is well.

Yes, but I think it is just showing that far right movement is creeping back in all over. I’d say that Politically we are the most racist we have been in 30+ years. Just because all other countries are worse statistically does not mean we should ignore the rise in Britain.

You don’t do yourself any favours using wording like this…

Comparing Meghan to Camilla is ridiculous.

It’s worth looking up the press coverage from a few years back. This is how The Guardian’s Catherine Bennet described what happened:

there was a time when Charles’s mistress doubled as a kind of national pillory, which would have been staggeringly misogynistic if so much abuse had not come from women, who hated her out of loyalty to Diana. the “wicked witch of Wiltshire”, a horse, a haddock, a trout, the most hated woman in England aka “the rottweiler” (Diana’s name for her)

This…

Press coverage does not mean fact, we all should know that.

Must be nice to know how everyone thinks

I mean that was her husband’s mistress, and her mother-in-law wanted her dead, so I think it’s fair enough.

We should absolutely not ignore it. However, it doesn’t change the point that we are more tolerant in this country which is the point Fox made. Many people responded as if he said everything was perfect here.

That is true, people seem quick to respond to the point they think they hear without actually hearing what is being said, like the Stomrzy point I raised in a previous post.
