I did pilates for a bit. It’s ok. I’m a bit meh whatever about it but I know some people love it and find it super useful.
Would rather hack around on a fixie to keep in shape tbh, but having 2 kids and it snowing half the time here doesn’t help.

Ps if anyone wants to rapidly lose weight I can thoroughly recommend having a second child. Guess when he was born from my weight chart
The rollerblader collision was three broken ankles ago. The ligament one was a sweeper gone wrong - rolled and hyperextended
Mobility training is also worth looking at. It’s a bit like a cross between yoga, pilates and bodyweight fitness - it’s not going to prevent ligament damage, but it will limit it and make the areas around the joints, etc. stronger and more flexible in the first place.
The Bodyweightwarrior on YT along with Movement_101 and Freedom Physio on Insta (both have paid for, long term programs) are pretty good too.
Kettlebells are rad too, being swinging them about a lot since Christmas, they’ve really helped with core/stomach/back strength and conditioning and keeping the legs plenty strong for skating.
Pull-up bars and gym rings are my favourites for building strength. You don’t realise how weak you actually are till you do a workout on the rings!
That’s weird cos I’ve put on 10kg in two months since mine. Don’t you spend most your time sat down holding the baby and eating shite?
Don’t have time to eat
I thought I didn’t have time to eat meals, so I power snacked constantly. Still am 4 years later.
Fair do
Feeling good after the chiropractor. The only negative was when he tried to sign me up for a £360 4 week treatment plan!
I also did some of the stretches that @anon86856945 suggested last night and intend to keep that up.
How long are the sessions for that money?
That tends to be the norm from my experience. Initially the frequency of sessions will be every 2-3 days for the first couple of weeks, then 2 per week for the following fortnight. They will then get you on an ongoing maintenance plan of sorts, (bespoke stretching plan included, I’d hope). That would probably be twice a month to begin with, moving to once a month after that. Monthly visit costs are usually about £30-£40. Options of extra visits would be there, for instance, if you feel you need it you could arrange one and pay as you go. It all sounds pricey and a bit of a ‘sign me up for life’ kind of a deal, but, in the long run if you work it out on how much it would cost you per week to have a functioning body, I feel it was money well spent to me. You can always just stop going if you’re not into it if you pay as you go. You just need to find a good chiropractor that you can trust. I have had a few for various reasons and I’ve found the quality of care really does vary. As does their understanding of geriatric skateboarders
Ah fair enough then. I wasn’t sure if they were just being really pushy.
I’m on pay as you go. Back in on Monday.
Session lengths vary depending on what needs doing. You’ll feel you’re getting pretty good value for money to begin with - relatively quick improvement and long sessions. Later, when the ‘treatments’ have done their thing and you’re ticking along nicely you might start thinking that £40 for five minutes is a bit of a con. I know I started to. It only takes a tweak or some sort of setback to remind you how useful going can be.
This is only from personal experience mind you. I genuinely thought I’d never skate again after a serious back injury. I tried a load of things and the only thing that got me back out there was chiropractic care. It can be different for everyone though. I still stretch daily and have a pretty intense exercise program as well. In combination it all seems to work for me.
Hope things work out for you.
Ah my question was to Tom, was basically to see what was offered for that money; I echo what you said - I’ve been to physios and agree they’re well worth the money.
I found the sports physio really helpful and gave me loads of different exercises to do.
Whereas the chiropractor just smashed my spine about and didn’t give much advice of how to look after myself.
That might just be the one I went to though.
I had a couple like that. The guy I settled on for a few years was a triathlete and sports physio as well as a chiropractor so kind of got it. He moved and so I had to find another. The one I settled on is bang into yoga and callisthenics and, most importantly, he asked me a load of questions about skateboarding and wanted to see some skate videos so to better understand what he was up against. Other than the regular chiropractic sessions I’ve got an ongoing stretch program from him. Like I said earlier, the level of care can really vary.
Yeah I don’t know if anyone remembers that Danny Way doc but he saw something like 14 physios before he landed on one that ‘got it’ and fully sorted him out. All physios are not the same and it may take a long time to find one that understands the dynamics of skateboarding. I saw 1 private physio and 3 NHS phyios before going hard on a full on anke specialist and he took 1 look at the scans and said ‘FUCK MATE YOU’RE ANKLE’S COOKED’ (he was an Aussie). Dorted me out in the end, his mate was an ankle surgeon for a load of premiere league footballers so he sorted me out. Good lad.
the best physio I had I ( before he popped his cloggs ) was an ex premier league physio. Was incredible at pinpointing pain and the correct therapy and said chiropractors were con artists because the cracking of backs and necks don’t resolve the spasmed muscles around the nerves which causes most problems. It’s a temporary release then you’re back again for the same thing . Cerching .
But as always each to their own as I haven’t found a physio that came close to his expertise and pinpointing/diagnosis of pain.
If anyone wants to know this physio dude that sorted my toasted ankle out DM me. He ain’t cheap BTW but worth it if you’ve had no luck elsewhere. Based in SW London.
