Middle Aged Shed

I’m such a baby when it comes to ladders, they shit me up every time. But then I’m also lazy so when I am up there I end up overreaching instead of coming back down and moving it when I should.

My dad has them, I’ve almost lost fingers using them, going up to their attic! They’re the biggest fuck on of any ladders I’ve ever had to use in my life, avoid.

But wait,

Not only is it 24 ladders in one, it slices, it dices etc…

Go telescopic. Game changer. Love mine.

Don’t know if this is the same one but it looks like it. I am no ladder guru.

Gutted that I’m over a week late for ladder chat.

Mine looks like this…

…and is handy for (but not limited to) loft access and hedge cutting.

Quite fancy the idea of a telescopic one, one day.

Gotta have a dream.

The telescopic ones are good because you can carry it with one hand and you don’t smack the shit out of your walls and doors every time you move it.

Ive just had a fuck load of stuff cleared out the back of mine so Im building a brick barbeque and pizza oven down the end ready for t’summer (autumn probably)

inb4 every possible comment on the back of this, but I’m really into wood, and am interested to know what type of wood you’d use in a pizza oven/wood fired bbq in the UK to get that heat retention for long periods. I could never find anything suitable and like a brian I used to order south african hardwood off amazon for £15 a bag, which was two bbq’s worth of fuel. Not economical.

i can confirm that cutting an 8 foot hedge on a slope with a normal step ladder is a bad idea.

you need the right ladder for the right job.

The favourite wood to burn over here is generally ash. You don’t need to season it like everything else, it smells nicer and leave nice white ash when it’s done.

I read a book about firewood because I’m a nerd.

Birch is the wood of choice according to this book in terms of heat output but he also puts a big disclaimer in saying at certain times pine will even burn hotter.

I once had a girl or should I say she once had me, she showed me her room, isn’t it good…

Yeah, The Beatles and manual labour in one book… That’s a tough sell.

did I miss something?

Just me being silly, if anyone mentions Norwegian wood (happens more than you’d think), I automatically go to The Beatles song with the same name in my head.

Makes me think of Murakami, which then makes me think of the Beatles. And awful sex scenes.

I had a vague recollection of reading a book recently with something like that mentioned and thought you had just pulled a vague quote from that book out of the air.

It’s one of the most famous Beatles songs, and one that brian cants in pubs with guitars all seem to know.
