Middle Aged Shed

I found that boarding a loft is great time to dig out kneepads if you have any.

New digs. Just picked up the keys.

Empty except for a bottle of white and some cheese.

Might have had a little happy cry when I stood at the window for the first time

So sick

Where’s that?

Just on the north shore of Sydney facing into the harbour. We went to a viewing on Saturday for something to do, loved it, put a deposit down yesterday, keys today. So crazy

How close are you to luna park?

Anyone got any experience with insulating a fireplace? We never use the fire and just get cold wind and noise blowing down the chimney all day and it’s getting more and more noticeable. Still trying to stave off putting the heating on. I’ve googled it and it’s bringing up these inflatable chimney balloons but it looks sketchy as fuck. Wife wants to just stuff a few old towels up there or something and I’m not convinced about that either. Would ideally want it to be something that we can remove but kind of semi-permanent.

We’ve got big foam things stuffed in our upstairs fireplaces. They were in there when we bought the house and it does the job.

I can’t imagine it’s super critical what you use to block the chimney just as long as you’ve made sure that the fire is properly decommissioned so nobody can try to use it afterwards.

I shoved a black cushion up mine in my last place. Did the job.

We stuck a chimney cap on ours. They only cost about £20, but you need to be able to get on the roof.

Can vouch for the balloon. I had one up mine and a pigeon fell down the chimney and not only could you not feel the draft you couldnt smell the decaying bird either. We only found out about it when we removed the balloon the other week and it explained the weird scrabbling a few months earlier. 10/10 would recommend

If I owned a chimney balloon company this would definitely be one for the back of the box.

We had a cushion in a bag for life in our chimney, and that worked well enough.

Thanks for the advice fellas. Will go with the idea of any old towels etc up there. Got an old duvet cover we use as a dust sheet so I’ll stuff that with them and do that this weekend.

At nearly 40 I have achieved a lifelong goal of having an open fire. Well midlife.

Had that at 29, regressed. So jelly. Shouldn’t have started this thread, how do you stop notifications?

Found it, never going to own my home…

thought you had bought? did it not go through?

There’s a place called DIY Kitchens at pontefract I’ve found, my new kitchen units work out 12 grand cheaper by going there. Stoked on avoiding kitchen showrooms ridiculous mark up :sunglasses:
