No he was orbiting (staying in Apollo 11), he couldn’t just come and pick them up. In fact Armstrong had to land the Eagle manually, which wasn’t on the cards too. They had to take back off to rejoin him.

Crazy to even contemplate getting in that rocket. They had to think that their odds of surviving the whole thing were somewhat worse than a round of Russian roulette.

He flew Apollo 11 there and back, that was his job basically. Only Armstrong and Buzz went down to the moon on the Eagle.
He was even famously called the loneliest man in the world because in the moons orbit he was the furthest human from Earth at certain points by himself.

My nan thought believed the moon landing was a hoax.
She never really had a huge explanation; it was more that it was just that incredible to a girl born in 1919 that man could land on the moon that it was easier to fail to understand how it was possible.

My Dad was sailing in the South Pacific when the moon landing happened. He pointed at the moon and told his Gilbertese crew that men were at that very moment walking around up there. They thought he’d lost his mind and were torn between pissing themselves laughing and locking him up for his own good.

How much of a nut would someone be deemed if they suggested that, while we definitely have been to the moon since, perhaps the very first visit could have been faked in order to beat the USSR…?

My friend wonders that sometimes too. After a few joints when the baby’s kept him up for two nights.
They could have known they were going to do it, but faked it to get the jump. Then they went back and filmed it but it looked fuck all like what they’d done in the studio so they can’t really film it again.
But the silly cunt hasn’t thought much about what would happen if Russia went there afterwards and filmed it and it was made of cheese or something.

That would surely make the whole thing even more difficult to pull off. They would have then had to go to some extraordinary lengths to ensure that the subsequent real moon landings looked just like the original faked one. I’m inclined to regard anyone who believes any of this stuff after giving it serious consideration to be a bit of a crackpot.
