Music thread

No but will check it!

is good, esp on the free party / traveller scene being a foundation for the outdoor raves that followed, with soundsystem culture driving the music innovation - much more interesting than “it all happened 'cos some London DJs went to Ibizia…”

Keen to read that - have met a few people who were with them in Yugoslavia around 1995/96, sounded scary in both reality & music:

A mate of mine went to castle Morton, said it was like some post apocalyptic scene and the place was really trashed, he was too, after about 2 days there their car broke down and he had to call his mum for a lift pretty much crying

Thinking of going to Arctangent this year so have been checking out some of the artists that I wasn’t familiar with. Wasn’t expecting whatever this is, but have played it ten times in a row

If I’ve got the date right I was at this one

Never went to Oscillate (Brum, I think?) but I distinctly remember being aware of them and knowing that HIA and Beaumont Hannnant were playing there and wanting to go.

It was amazing. Got my membership card somewhere. Full on bunning going on everywhere totally in the open. Wicked sound, amazing live sets, cool people. I would have moved in there if I was allowed

Sounds a bit like Megadog at The Rocket where I was going around the time. Lineups weren’t consistently quality, but they were frequently mind blowing.

Yeh it was quite like Megadog but a bit more techy rather than hippy. I guess there were a few clubs like that at the time, Whirly Gig and the Tea something in Brixton. Herbal Tea Party?

That rings a bell yeah. I was a bit put off by the trancey/hippy side of stuff even at a relatively young age, so even quite early on was opting for more electronica/techno oriented stuff. Still went to a few Whirlygigs and shit like that with mates though. I didn’t hate it. It just wasn’t really what I was really into.

Formative times. * Sigh *
