Absolute all-time classic gear.

I could absolutely spam this thread with early Black Dog Productions/Balil etc. Nothing from the subsequent incarnation of Black Dog or Plaid could ever quite match the period up to and including Spanners for me.

I would disagree personally, I like all of it to be honest. Peak Plaid is the album Spokes and that trumps any black dog/Balil/Atypic etc

Plaid are so hit and miss for me. Noodley little bits of plinky plonk over and over.
When they are great, they really are great but they have so much turdery.

I’ll just round it off with this

I mean, I quite like Plaid. But whilst I can theoretically see how someone could prefer post-Black Dog Productions Plaid, for me the GPR/Warp era Black Dog/BDP stuff is sooo far ahead of anything that any of them did since - as well as most of their contemporaries - it’s just mindblowing. :person_shrugging:

Totally get you, they were ahead of the curve in that time but afterwards, I don’t think they needed to be groundbreaking trailblazers, they just made cracking electronica with interesting melodic ideas.

Anyone heard the new Kim Gordon stuff? Kind of 808 heavy! Haven’t given it a proper listen yet

I really that first track. Not so dissimilar in spirit to Making the Nature Scene off the first SY record.

Definitely a special album, mad vibes going on

I watched this a couple of weeks back and the first track sounded so familiar…I know what this is, haven’t heard it in decades…

It’s this…

… I then had to dig out Ciccone Youth’s ‘The Whitey Album’ and give it a spin.
