Music thread

Couldn’t find the AI thread but thought this was an interesting read / perspective on the creeping “democratization” of music making…

It must be close, ai generated music in any genre, on demand. But people will still want stars, and you’d hope innovation would be led by people, would ai come up with new genres that don’t exist? Could it have made Burial, or Actress, Portishead?

most modern pop music might as well be AI generated anyway. it’s so formulaic. same chord sequences. same instruments. copy paste lyrics. interchangeable singers with similar voices. faceless corporations making the money.

to me this all goes back to the live music stuff - we desperately need the government to break the live nation / ticketmaster monopoly on live venues so that -

  1. touring musicians can charge lower prices to their fans without being fucked by ticketmaster.
  2. smaller venues can thrive
  3. smaller musicians can tour

Cheers I’ll give that a watch later

Wonder if anyone who got scanned heard the records, they must have

I swear I once heard a scanner tune that incorporated a recording of a conversation with a train driver aboard a train suffering a mechanical brake failure that was bound for some sort of crash or collision. Does this ring any bells? It was a radio broadcast and never been able to find it since.

Doesn’t ring any bells

This is interesting

This is a quality set, just been listening. Once saw them in Sheffield at the Boardwalk in 2004 I think

Edit: Ah yeah it was:

Good thing about a Shellac show, that, Bob Weston compering the Q&A.

Yeah, I think so. Saw the listing go up, thought about which one to go to. It’ll be my annual gig too.

Another jungle mix by Alex Hatfield. Just started listening, sounds good so far and the others on his soundcloud are quality.

Lived in Sheffield around that time and not going to see the Fall when they played there a few times is my biggest regret.

Seen most of my favourite acts live except the Fall.

Holy shit

I didn’t expect them to play the UK any time soon, so I had to cop the Bristol tix.

Well aye.

People up in arms that Beyonce releases a cover of Jolene (that sounds awful) but no one cares that she dropped a cover of Blackbird? Heathens everywhere I tell ya. Probably don’t even know the song

Some musical illuminati bosses at the top scared that their payday music is losing numbers and dying out so they pay Beyonce to bring it back to the masses.
Country seems to be on the memo for everyone and line dancing is back.

A lot of pop country stars leading the revival in the US seems like utterly awful Michael Fabricants. Aldean and Wallen for example. I dont know what it is about modern country music and being awful but they seem to go hand in hand. Mad that someone as awesome as Dolly Parton would come out of such a scene, I suppose in the olden days maybe people were better or something
