Love it. So much variety and difference to it all too. Black metal growling is like a satanic witch screaming a curse. Death metal growling is like a viking war charge.
Vocals are the downfall for many metal genres. The need to copy and micro manage micro genre specifics is tedious and stunts individualism and the chance of something new. This is the same with Guitar/drums etc too though. The growl then sing thing is fucking annoying.
I can block out vocals in metal if they don’t do it for me if the rest is good. The Dave Mustaine effect.
Vader are great, their Live in Japan album is sick, they cover ‘Raining Blood’ and it might even improve on the original (sacrilegious, I know) because the original version doesn’t have the vocalist shouting “SLAYYYERRRR” over the riff but this one does
They were pretty darn riffy on tuesday! They played the whole of Leviathan end to end and then a bunch of random stuff from Blood Mountain. Then as we started filing out they played the new stuff that isn’t as good.
I fucking love Mastodon. Mostly just enjoyed watching Brent Hinds being a weirdo and guessing which guitar he’s about to swap to.
They’re not really as “metal” as some of the other stuff you’re into though. And the newer stuff (anything post Crack the Skye) did go a bit pop-rocky, so I get it.
again they’re a band i WANT to like. they did a massive tour with Gojira and all of the artwork was so awesome. i love their imagery. i’ve heard a few songs that were good but it just doesn’t “hit” if you know what i mean? i listen to a fair few bands who aren’t “heavy” like Ghost but they just don’t do it for me. i’d probably still go see them live anyway
Always used to see the Que Club listed on tours and ads in the 90s, looked like so much good stuff happened there.
The only time I ever went was for the “Smash It Up Punk All Dayer” in 1996, with The Damned, Sham 69, Anti Nowhere League, The Meteors, GBH, Peter and The Test Tube Babies, John Cooper Clarke, Demented Are Go, Chaos UK, The English Dogs and more (I’ve just looked it up to refresh my memory).
It was a very messy affair, piss and puke everywhere, JCC walked off stage because people threw bottles at him. The Meteors were amazing. I was a bit out of my depth with all that punkness, just watched from the sidelines.
Yeah, Yob played in a smaller room, I watched them for a bit, I had no idea who they were until that day. Wolves In The Throne Room also played, and I still don’t know who they are
Ah nice. in Aus?
Was it typical BBNG or was it their new jazzy album stuff?
Unfortunately, that is shite.
Would like to see them playing usual stuff, been keeping an eye out.
