My first, I think that year as well, was Hawkwind in Wolverhampton. First time on mushrooms as well. Delicious

I got this cassette from Steve Albini’s estate sale. Tracks that PJ Harvey sent him when he engineered Rid Of Me in 93. 4 tracks taped over a Suede LP. Couple of them unreleased versions. I used to live down the block from Shellac’s first rehearsal space and was lucky to have some prime Albini encounters from 95 to 97 ish. I really love what a sweetheart he became in later life after being the ultimate edgelord earlier on. I liked the edgelord as well though. RIP. Polly Harvey is the best
PJ Harvey played Burnley in the early/mid 90s, all the band’s gear got nicked.
I had a mate who unknowingly bought her guitar, a Gretsch that apparently she was given by her dad and she learned to play on. He only found out it was hers years later, when she mentioned it in an interview, and ended up giving it back to her (I think he sent it to the NME, or something).

Wow, that’s a mad one. Glad she got it back
Got it! Can’t wait to spin it later/tomorrow. I’m purposefully avoiding listening to it digitally as I want the first full listen to be on big speakers.
That Susan Cadogan tune! Oof.
I love the purity of early Bo but I really dig this one from 1970.
Ooh yeah. He’s still miles ahead of the game here in 1970 as well when you think about it. Like you say though the early stuff, and especially the first one are just so so out there on their own. I never get why people don’t give it it’s due for inventing basically everything, but even without all the nerdy provenance it still just bangs so fucking hard. Sounds so fresh and badass at all times. " just 22 and I don’t mind dying "
My pal Fidel has been doing the lords work and uploading alot of his incredible archive ( he’s a member of the Chin/Randys family ) to his YT Channel. This doc that was on Channel 4 in 1983 was only available in small pieces for years. Every episode is chock full of incredible things. This one, with the interview with Tommy McCook being the coolest man on the planet at that time, followed by golden footage of the classic Skatalites line up recording at Channel 1, is a very important thing. I could spend days on his channel
RIP Stranger Cole ![]()
