That must have been an experience and a half.
Peel mentioned when he hosted 120 Minutes on MTV that people always assumed him and MES had a pretty close relationship, but he wanted to be clear that at the most they’d nod if they ever saw each other.
I still love that interview where he’s having a right go at the band Ash, saying they stole his music or something. He just ends the interview by sticking his tongue out at them apparently.
You told me that in a pub once I think. The whole situation/set-up to that was amazing.
Nae luck Boabby.
No idea how many times I’ve seen The Fall, but this was the last time I - or anybody else - saw them. Last ever show, at Glasgow QMU, not that anybody knew it at the time.
Most of the time MES was facing the wrong way.
One time when I saw Von Sudenfed he came onto the stage, pulled the mic out of the stand and walked back off again. Did the whole show’s vocals from the dressing room.
Think how much more of this there must be to come out. Dance music is rife with slimy bastards.
I think you probably have to arrest most male artists, Males with power will take advantage of situations which could be construed to be inappropriate.
Some have probably been downright predatory.
Hmm, I wonder…

Anybody seen these two in the same room?
did another reggae tribute mix over the weekend - this time another amazing producer Bobby Digital who passed recently. His label Digital B was a cast iron guarantee of quality. here is mixcloud link Mixcloud

Fucking hell that’s disappointing. Unfortunately, the descriptions of his actions are all too familiar and believable. Seems that the fallout/spat over royalties with Michael James (who composed the Strings of Life piano riff) led to James letting the cat out of the bag a couple of months ago - Derrick May dropped from lineups amid sexual assault allegations · News ⟋ RA
Derrick May not, it turns out.
Never heard of him.
One of the Belleville Three (along with schoolfriends Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins), who were the main pioneers of Detroit techno and then took it around the world as acid house became big in the late 80s - early 90s. Mainly known for his techno classic, Strings of Life.
Never heard of these or Detroit techno.
I know nothing of electronic music.
I like Vangelis though.
“There are few living figures in electronic music as historically significant as Derrick May.”

No probs, all you need to know is that he’s kind of a big deal.
Who else? Aphex Twin? Kraftwerk? Carl Cox? Bukem? Derrick May would definitely be at the centre of the dining table of all time electronic greats.
Maybe Kraftwerk?
AFX, Carl Cox for sure…Yeah, Bukem, I guess. Kraftwerk. 100%. Delia Derbyshire.
Even Liam Howlett.
I’m sure there is a ton more but I’m between Zoom calls.
Derrick May is one of the forefathers of techno, granted - but that isn’t the same as the all encompassing term “electronic music” which is that links claim and where I just dont think in the grand scheme, he sits that highly.
