I haven’t seen it since the early nineties, bit reluctant to watch it now as it might not live up to my memory, the soundtrack certainly does though, there’s a couple of bits that sound very eno/fripp.
The film lives in the same memory vault as local hero and Gregory’s girl
Perfect comparisons.
The day my family got a (rented) VCR I was given 50p to go to the shop and rent a video. I’d seen some of Restless Natives before so rented it the fuck out. Turned out it was on TV that very night, so I taped it off the TV instead.
First film I ever saw on our new betamax was Barbarella. Must’ve been about 3 or 4. Watched it the other day and gave me that weird nostalgic shivers thing and it’s also a right perv fest so not sure what my folks were up to.
It seems to me that he’s always trying to sound more and more gangster, but as he lives in Bath, he sounds a mid-Atlantic, wannabe cool dad from North Norfolk Digital. He always wants to sound like the non-conformist tough guy when introducing a tune “from the playlist” and how he was always out and about at NY block parties, yo.
Goldie’s show was a one-off, it was pretty good I thought. You’re right about his style of delivery - it’s excitable and enthusiastic, works for me anyway.
Marc Riley is dull and predictable. Everything is “amazing”, that gig he, or the fans who write in, went to last week “blew everybody away”, he will not play any electronic stuff unless it’s a safe, late 80s/early 90s anthem that was played in the Hacienda. He always seems content to be bland.
Cannot stand Liz Kershaw on Saturday lunchtime. So bland, boring and misinformed about her guests, always getting key details wrong, or like her last show, talking over her guests as they said they were doing a fundraiser, right as they said it was for a friend who’s house was on the verge of being repossessed by the bank.
Giles Peterson’s show would usually be my favourite, or Nemone’s Friday midnight show.
Won’t hear that about Riley. He picks the music so of course he thinks everything he plays is great. Only gripe would be too much John Dwyer, but Peel had The Fall and The Wedding Present so it’s hardly an issue. His enthusiasm for the stuff that’d never get mentioned elsewhere is brilliant.
Figured it must be in Liz Kershaw’s original contract from 1930 that she has a show. She’s unbelievably hopeless. Like she’s the boss’s wife but the boss retired years ago and nobody can get rid of her.
Nemone comes across like she got into that music pretty recently and just did lots of homework. Exactly like Mary-Anne Hobbs but without the nu-metal. She doesn’t sound like she really means it, or has that background. Not that I ever hear her for more than a few minutes when she’s doing her own show though.
And yeah, Huey Morgan’s laughable cod-thuggery is hard work. Banging on abut being a Marine like that’s cool, and calling cunts who’ve probably never heard of him “Ma boy” and shit. Acting like he’s some straight-up thug from The Bronx when he’s just some twat from an indie band who had one novelty hit 25 years ago. I think he’s lived in the UK since then, since the 90s, and yeah as you say he lives in Frome. It’s all very patronising.
Even crazier is that it sounds like he died on Oct 31st.
I think everyone will be glad to see the end of 2020. Done…Thankfully.
Last shitter of 2020. This year will be better.
Unlikely.
Slight diversion from the ever excellent Doom which should be the focus right now…
but this sounds okay:
Was a massive fan but the last few albums I’ve not really bothered with (Plus, they seem to release so much music in super limited quantities that it’s really hard to hear some of the more interesting stuff…which is fucking annoying tbh).
Just nothing about those last releases grabbed me. But this sounds like them in their more interesting form again…
Fingers crossed. Just pre-ordered it. Hope I’m not wrong.

I always thought deleting the back catalogue was worse than bunning the million. Guess they changed their mind!
Sample clearance innit. That’s thirty years now.
They did it so they wouldn’t get sued then? De La Soul must regret using the Turtles for that skit
