Sounds a bit like Patrick Bateman.
Hey, Paul!
Ty does it, too.
It’s defintely something I can get used to - I’m just not a fan of it.
Yeah same!
is this what makes me feel like I can’t focus, things just feel too fast and hectic?
No, I think thats just life in 2024 for old people.
I usually agree with GH, and he does make some valid points, but a lot of that rant was making a mountain out of a molehill imo.
Gifted Hater skates like that kid you didn’t want to hang around with because his jeans featured too many chains and his shoes has developed their own bacterial ecosystem, so I take whatever he says with a hefty grain of salt at the best of times.
Interesting because this is exactly the fear I had but I think it dodged the bullet. It wasn’t an RVCA/Element/generic vid, it showcases the skating very well for a big brand vid.
No Shrimp Blunt obviously.
From what I skipped through, the reasons he doesn’t like it, are all the reasons I did. It was style with substance, for a lack of a better way of saying it, a thought out video. I’ll take that over a Shake Junt one any day. Different people like different things.
All his points about Foy are shite as he only references SOTY stand out moments and brushes over stuff like Miles Silvas stand alone part that won it for him, what was his stand out bit that people are still talking about in 2024?
This is a video that I watched till the end and will be rewatching and not many videos can do that to me these days.
Tdlr: Corporate video doesn’t have weed and dickhead antics shocker.
Gone more and more off GH recently but do agree with a lot of what he said on that video. It felt like it was made by an AI. Was surprised by how much people were backing the edit, Kyle Camarillo has totally lost it.
Nike SB Quickstrike is an example of how to make a big brand video in 2024, had some soul to it
That’s it precisely. I’m very much done with “rough and ready” skate videos now.
It was beautifully shot and so well edited, and it works perfectly with NB’s visual language and their overall marketing.
On a side note, I hope VX dies (properly) really really soon. As much as I loved using those cameras, please can people move the fuck on!
I never thought I’d say it but I agree VX needs to die. Is Atlantic Drift VX anymore?
Nope, Atlantic Drift is Panasonic HVX/HMC/HPX from what I can tell.
I like all types of footage, depends on the skater and locations. As long as the trick is captured well it can be as inventive as it likes. Gritty works and clean works as long as the substance backs it up. The argument is done to death but people are still doing it, ruining footage because of silly trends. I don’t mind the zoom and getting a glimpse of the face to show the skater in the moment as long as the trick/footage/spot doesn’t suffer.
Which in a lot of cases, it does.
GH’s NB rant feels a bit like content for contents sake.
He’s complaining about the filming angles obscuring the skater. That’s true in the screen grabs he’s selected, but what he doesn’t mention is there are multiple angles for these tricks.
Those shots are also tracking/rolling long lens shots, so those moments happen for a fraction of a second.
