Beautifully sunny day, first of the year and I’m lay in bed with this never ending flu/virus that’s going round. Week 3 of it now - do it my head in. Anyone else had it and managed to shake it off?

Yeah it’s shit, felt endless. Took me a couple of weeks to feel back to 100%, then I immediately got a classic runny nose cold straight after.

Had a bad cold for a week, then the next week not feeling so rough but sinuses cabbaged and a lot of pain from the pressure around them. Started to feel normal by Tuesday this week after 2 weeks then hit me like a truck on Thursday with cold sweats. Seem to be a lot of people with it currently. I know it’s just flu but seems gnarly this year!
Woe is me and all that.
Cleaned my fish tank and accidentally killed two of our four fish.

we went through a vast number of pretty but super non-resilient fish before finding some tropical breed called “black widows” or something like that that have thus far managed to not die
I got given a glass fish bowl for my birthday which had a pestle and mortar accidentally pushed against it during cleaning. It was like the bit in Jaws 3 when the shark comes through the glass screen. There was this “oh shit” moment then the cracks spread across the glass and it exploded and dumped 60l of smelly fish water over my Xbox underneath and the new carpet. One fish got chopped in half by the glass. The other survived but later grew a huge tumour on his head like the Elephant Man, and refused to die for ages.
When I looked the bowl up online to see if it was faulty it turned out my wife had just bought a random glass bowl from Habitat which was in no way strong enough to hold that much water.

Yep, nowhere near thick enough or remotely reinforced/strengthened. She’d set it all up ready so it was there, filled with water and fish, when I woke up on my birthday, so I never saw the ‘Habitat Decorative Glass Bowl’ box it came in and assumed it was legit. How we laughed.

Not sure that rule applies to funfair goldfish, those little buggers can live to 30+ in a Lego tub filled with old bathwater.

At the other end of the spectrum, when I used to stay with my grandparents over the summer, if I ever won a goldfish at the fair my grandad would flush it down the bog within 48hrs and tell me it had died in the night!

Just a cold water tank with a couple of goldfish and two other small things, which my wife got, so no idea what they were…
Hadn’t cleaned it in a while, due to life being busy etc. One goldfish was looking unwell, so got motivated and after moving them into a smaller bowl for the duration of the cleaning, the two smaller fish were dead as a door nail… so to look after the needs of one fish, I killed two others… and now the unwell one has died overnight… So 75% kill ratio in less than 12 hours.

Just saw through Slap that Toan Nguyen has AML (Acute myeloid leukaemia). My best friend had this 3 times growing up. He had chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
Overfeeding is usually the culprit. Goldfish can survive on fuck all, much healthier if they eat just enough, same as humans i guess
