Remember seeing him and Frosty at a competition at Yate near Bristol skating the novel for the time concrete park, which was lumpy and terrible.
He was in his full Anti Hero stage, red mesh trucker, green t shirt and brown dickies… watching him rip the place was an indeliable highlight of the day.
(Another highlight was that welsh Nicky kid doing fs 540s in sports trainers)
RIP.
So sad .
Dunno what else to say.
Even if his skating wasn’t your cup of tea his style and control was undeniable.
I forget where I heard it but someone once recounted a Magee quote at urban games
“Dougie’s the best skater here and he isn’t even doing tricks”
Rest in peace Doug and Cath x
Thanks for taking the time to say this @WallyBazoum
Yeah that’s a belting tale
Spent a good amount of time with Doug when I lived in Leeds
No idea what’s gone on but it’s very sad to hear he’s passed
RIP Doug
Gutted to hear the news. He was such a character and so fun to be around. RIP
Pretty saddened to hear this Doug was a great fella RIP
My first ever Sidewalk was the one with his haunts, just went to reread it and I’d cut out all the photos to cover my school books with.
Saw him skate Leeds a few times, he seemed like a good bloke. As Wally said, it’s hard to fathom the tragedies his family went through.
RIP
Agreed @WallyBazoum great post. Haven’t known what to say about Doug. Felt a great sadness about his passing, feels numbing. Something I knew was coming but never when to expect it. He was a complex character but I spent a lot of amazing times with him and at his true self he was the most charming and charismatic, funny guy you’ve ever met. Not to mention a wizard on a board, glad to have know him. In the height of our friendship I got in from a night out at about 4 am had an argument with me ex girlfriend, and walked to a nearby park to lie in a bush and forget about stuff. Who would cycle past me in that exact spot and cry laughing when I jumped out the bush at him but Doug. We sat for hours laughing in a bush til the sun came up. Got a lot of stories like this about him.
I was with him about two weeks ago. He wasn’t in a good way, but emotionally and as himself, he seemed at peace. Glad him and Cath are together again x
I never had the pleasure of meeting Doug, but I always loved seeing his footage and photos.
RIP to a real one.
Don’t think I ever met him but sounds like i’d know if I did. Sorry to hear it, sad news RIP.
I never met him either.
You could tell he was one of those guys that are ten times more incredible in the flesh than in videos, no matter how fantastic his footage was, and it always was.
RIP Doug.
There is no more entertaining breed of UK skateboarder than the wild Yorkshireman simultaneously hanging on for dear life but in complete control. I’ve been terrified by a few over the years, but obviously Doug is the model. As a person and skateboarder he will never be forgotten. RIP
29.16 - still listen to the song on the regs from this.
Sick part, the Fs-5-0 into the quarter at Hyde is absolute shapes
Never saw Doug skate in person, but I did see him play the dad guitar when Gentleman’s Pistols supported The Answer in a wee club in Merthyr of all places. I had to double take for a sec I did.
He seemed like a top bloke and was a shredder, always got stoked on what footy I saw of him.
RIP.
Anyone else washing cat piss out of their work bag at 10 PM on a Thursday? Just me then? Great
Why did you take the cat to work?
We tried having him commute but he didn’t like the trains
You have to make sure the flask is done up tight next time.
