Not Stoked.

Just got a call to say wife’s uncle has the virus. He’s been in hospital with cancer for 5 months so contracted it inside as he’s had no visitors the past 6 weeks and now will most likely die alone.

Ah man , what a situation. Man I hope it doesn’t come to that ! I got my fingers crossed and energy sent his way to come through this :crossed_fingers:t3:

Shitter to read this.
My 95 Yr old gran can’t receive my Father as a visitor while in hospital after her fall.
He must be one of the only familiar faces to her for the past few years.
She is short stay only so will be home again pretty soon.
Is hospital or at home the safer option?
At 95, horrible as it sounds, there isn’t long left anyway regardless of what takes her.
Meanwhile, my mother in law is in a Japanese prison still, does she know anything about what’s happening and being in isolation, is she the safest of us all in our family?
She added a letter to me in her last communication with my wife naming all sorts of fictitious names of people who ripped her off.
I haven’t written back yet. I feel bad because she wrote specifically to me asking for help but how do I respond telling her that the people she thought she had got to know were all made up?
Turns out she had been sending stacks of money through Western Union to scammers.
I know for sure with a condition that she has and her age that she too would not get through it.

Jeez man I feel for you and those involved . These times are testing the fuck out of everyone. I’m glad we can share and support each other on here . Very comforting :+1:t2:

Hopefully your gran can be tested soon enough and go be at home!

Yeah I kinda know how you feel with your step mum. My uncle had a motorbike crash in his 20’s and ended up with brain damage and no use of his left arm and can’t walk too well. At the time he was just a sailor in the navy, but now has periods where he thinks he’s in the SAS and getting calls from people to get ready for missions and stuff. Sometimes it can be laughed off but he’s done things like try and buy guns from pubs and people have just ripped him off and the police end up calling us trying to figure out things.
Over the years he’s convinced he’s has these mates and some major in the SAS. The names and background stories have been consistent for 30 years. So either he has 2 brains or memories he switches from… or he really is in the SAS.

Can you kind of skirt rounds bits when you write back? Surely if they have proof she was doing WU to scammers it’s obvious she’s been set up/scapegoat?

I will be completely honest here.
It seems to me that despite her having a far larger and more immediate family than I am personally used to, I struggle to understand why they don’t club together to help.
As a letter has come to me, literally begging for help, it’s help that I am in no position to provide and knowing that she has sisters who won’t entertain the idea of helping her, I feel that I have to put aside feeling sorry for the predicament that she has brought upon herself and look after my immediate family as I’ve been able to.
It sounds and feels horrible but I didn’t factor in bailing anybody out of prison at the cost of thousands of pounds. Money which could well be invested into the future of our children.
Shit, that sounds tough.
I’m really saying that she is not my responsibility and that hurts me to say it.

Na I’m with you on that! If Immediate family aren’t doing anything you can’t be expected to pick it up

Looking for a positive here at all, I got my kids to meet with their great Grandmother.
I know that kids of a young age remember such odd things.
As an example , I met my only living Great Grandparent when I was really young.
She was in a hospital, confusing her fingers with her toes. As a kid I found that funny. Clear as day I remember the whole thing and I was probably only 2 or 3.
So back to the original point, i trust that my little fellas might have the memory of meeting a great Grandparent.
Worryingly, the eldest has missed mormor (swedish for grandmother) but hasn’t asked where she is.

Brutal. Lots of things in the news about this happening in Italy, it’s so tragic, sorry to hear about that Forward

Sorry to hear that @Chopper. :tiger:  :broken_heart:

Cheers Jagger, it felt real when work closed, but now it feels on my door step.

Heard this morning he had been moved a few times in the last 3 weeks but everyone who has been in contact with him in the last week or something has tested all clear, so it shows they got thier stuff together in the hospitals so I wouldn’t even worry.

Just found out 2/3rds of my work are being put on paid leave for 2 months (me being one of them), and 100% of staff are being asked to take a 20% pay cut for 5 months.

I’m in the process of trying to buy a flat, this is going to potentially fuck everything up.

It’s these kind of timelines that are so worrying. Rather than the usual, “It’ll be over soon” thinking.

I’d say it was a realistic timeline more than anything

Deffo realistic, I fully don’t know when I will be working again. Still got shows in June, July and August that haven’t been cancelled but I see them all being postponed.

Still having jobs with a 20% pay cut is pretty fucking good going, if I was boss I’d tell them to kick rocks if they didn’t like it

It’s better than some people are getting that’s for sure. My worry is if I tell my bank they’ll take back the mortgage offer (I wouldn’t have been offered it in an 80% salary, however, I could still afford to pay it). So I could keep quiet and hope it all works out in 5 months.

The risk being, I job doesn’t recover (who really knows), I get made redundant and then my insurance doesn’t pay out because I didn’t tell them of the issues with the employer.

It sucks that you have a reason for needing full pay but everyone on 80% pay is fine as most people are doing nothing, not needing petrol, not going out for drink and food, you’re just buying food for home so many might find that they have saved some money up. Possibly. Others will just get fat and become alcoholics.

I’ve bought about a year’s worth of cool stuff / utter crap in the last two weeks. And now I’ve been paid so I’m going to keep doing it.

I guess ebay is still working fine, just wipe down your goods when they arrive.
